Dont live there but the must see is the museum in balboa park. The 3r folks are very friendly and the other layouts are well done.

I second the Model Railroad Museum in Balboa Park! It covers all the scales with multiple model railroad clubs running out of there. Additionally, there is the Old Town Model Railroad Depot in Old Town San Diego that is a nice visit as well. Website links for both locations are below.
