The 385E is designed to work with 500 series freight cars and 300 series passenger cars. The couplers will be too low for 400 series passenger and 200 series freight cars.

Kirk, are the bodies the same height? Or just the couplers are different? Are there any 300 series sized cars that have 6 wheel trucks? Lionel or MTH. I think the 300 series cars I've looked up look kinda awkward. Like I said I'm really green to standard gauge. Thanks again
The 385(E) looks great with the longer 1766, 67, 68 cars. Lionel cataloged this combo as the 367W "Washington Special" in starting in 1935 (367E in 1934). They have six wheel trucks, but are comparatively pricey versus the 300 series.
