Fun morning along the Moffat Road yesterday. 6” new inches of snow overnight left a not impossible but unusual snow flock shot opportunity above 7500’ which is roughly Pinecliffe and Crescent up to the Divide.

Although not impossible it’s been a long long time since I have had the opportunity to shoot flock in June. It’s been a good spring for snow shots this year.

Rocky Mountaineer is running here for the first time with matching power with RMRX 8020 on the point leading through a snowy Wednesday morning. Remarks: Rocky Mountaineer Now thats a beautiful train. Fresh snow, 8.9” worth overnight on May 25th at Nederland, official and this late in the year that flock doesnt last long! Still I had some nice snow to compliment this splendid blue, gold, and white wonder. This is the first westbound with proper leaders of the amazing Rocky Mountaineer to Moab, Utah and running about an hour behind due to Amtrak’s untimely departure from Denver and getting my son to school and having my 4 year old along I managed. Fun morning trackside with the Rocky Mountaineer near the Great Divide.

A few weeks ago on May 21st and more typical a heavy Spring snow dump left upwards of a foot of snow.

Great shots lucky to get them with the light snow fall really adds to the images. Thanks for sharing.

The Rocky looks good in that scenery and with the snow. Interesting to see it now running in a much different scenery from the normal runs in Canada where I have photographed it a lot. But the Rocky Wave paint scheme I have always found a bit different. Interesting they normally have the engines and cars set up so the wave is always aimed in the same direction as it was designed to match up from one car/engine to the next. Seldom have seen it in Canada with the cars/engines set up in different directions. Many years back I built O models of this the train in this then new paint scheme.

That’s pretty funny Doug! 😁 I70 these days after everyone moved here under 30 and wanderlust is an absolute disaster in winter conditions and this last winter that was daily. Between tourists in rentals with slicks and drivers with zero winter driving experience from California and midwesterners with zero mountain winter driving experience all bets are off. Ugly 🤨

All that Ohio drag-strip power and nowhere to go.

It used to be law to chain up or have adequate tires and CDOT/CSP would ticket you, since COVID they don’t even bother. Instead they have the pushers out shoving people up the passes. Good grief. 😖

Did the Rocky Mountaineer get lost?  What is it doing so far south of Canada?  Maybe it migrates south for the winter just like the Canadian geese?  Great photos.  NH Joe
