I have seen blue comet passenger cars and two tone blue passenger cars. Are these colors one in the same or are they different? The blue comet cars appear to have more Turquoise in them than the two tone blue. Has anyone ever compared either the tinplate traditions or the lct cars?

Charles Woods list 2 light blues for the blue comet, one late, one early, then one dark blue for the blue comet. Also, the blue streak cars had a light blue, but it was different, called China Blue. There are other Lionel blues listed, but without a color sample, I don't know what they look like.

Per Steves post the lighter blue(latter) is nickel trim Blue Comet and the darker light blue is (early) brass trim.
This is interesting as I am referring to the 300 series MTH NJC 384 Blue Comet starter set they issued a few years back. It seam all of the add-ons that were made by TT and LCT, do not match this set?

The add on cars for your set would be 1 or 2 SKU numbers apart from the set.
If one set was Brass trim and the other nickel trim they would be most likely 2 different shades of Blue. There is a B&O starter set that is a darker Blue with a Black top.
