Well its now April 20th, What is the big news from York?????????
Replies sorted oldest to newest
I think whatever "news" there was has already dribbled out.

Can`t have been anything earth shattering as I can`t find any details either.
TM Books & Video celebrated the 20th anniversary of I Love Toy Trains with a new DVD - ROAR OF THE RAILS - with special effects never-before-seen in a train video. Mickey and Minnie pump a handcar on the Moon. A Lionel Santa Fe Warbonnet F3 crosses the Golden Gate Bridge. Handcars circle the Milky Way. A yellow Lionel submarine visits Great Barrier Reef. A Lionel Biplane flies under thr Brooklyn Bridge. A green beam from a UFO shrinks trains to half their size. A Turbo Train roars out of a covered bridge. And James Coffey contributes 5 new songs. Tom and Charyl McComas were selling 2013 I Love Toy Train buttons for $100 each or FREE with purchase. What a deal!
Ed Boyle was his usual charming and amiable self as host of the OGR Forum Grandstand Meeting. I asked LocoLawyer to greet Ralph the OGR Forum mascot for us when he visits Marty's home again.
Lionel has a new General Manager.
I spoke with Mike Wolf about offering trolleys in New Orleans paint schemes.

The most comprehensive source of information would probably be the video from the OGR Forum meeting in the grandstand. I believe Rich said it would be posted early next week.
One reason there is less news from York is that Lionel and MTH (as well as some other manufacturers) are posting their catalogs and information on the internet so people no longer need that information from the York meet. In the case of MTH, the catalog was only available on the internet since their printed main catalog did not make it to York (MTH did hand out S-Scale and Lionel Corporation Tinplate catalogs).
Finally, let me indulge in shameless self-promotion here and refer you to my post on what was presented on "Wednesday before York" at the National TCA Museum in Strasburg: https://ogrforum.com/d...nt/16212591180602648
You have heard it all, catalogs are so, so, Lionel has a new GM. The ogr meeting was HO hum but I could have or already knew the info if I did not even go. Nothing was earth shattering, too much hype before the York meet of what was coming.

Dave:
I think you made a very good point. For some reason, there seemed to be a lot of guys who claimed to know this or that but were telling everyone they had to wait until York to find out. I think that's why there seemed to be expectations of "big" news, whatever that may be.

Also, there is a York Meet forum: https://ogrforum.com/d...rum/2415514336485367
You might be able to glean some additional info there.
Probably the biggest story was that Eastern Division announced they would NOT be enforcing the cell phone rule. As I was entering the orange hall, a gentleman was rushing out, cell phone to his ear, to continue his phone conversation. You should have seen the look on his face when the security guard told him he didn't have to leave, he could stay in the hall and continue his conversation. I'm sure he was expecting some kind of rebuke from the guard and instead he was told it was OK and he didn't have to leave the hall.
Veni, vidi,...poopi.
As I mentioned in another thread, the 'downer-of-the-day' was finding the posting at Berkshire Valley's booth indicating that this York, perhaps, was their 'swan song'.
Apparently the search during the past couple of years for a buyer has not been successful. The display was spartan, at best, compared to prior Yorks. The indication was that there was but one more potential buyer under discussion, but this was the "Going Out of Business" time.
Very, very sad,...but understandable.
Ah, well, we are an aging bunch, aren't we? We all hope to have a few good days, weeks, months,....years...of an earthly rest from our labours. Life's passions often struggle to burn, to glow, to have lingering warmth.

Kudos go to Eastern Div. meet officials for getting the word out to security personnel regarding the changed cell phone rule. I saw several of them spreading the word to their fellow security guards when they had a shift change or whatever.
From what I witnessed, dropping the rule had no negative impact whatsoever in regard to how the vast majority of participants conducted themselves at the meet. Most in our hobby do, after all, know how to behave like ladies and gentlemen.

I like their stuff, good quality, but I found it to be a bit pricey for just a kit.

Wow. Big.
Now how about the stroller rule. The power carts are just a new stroller.

I think so, too, Allan. The new cell phone rule had no discernible effect at all as far as I could tell.
There were a couple of inconsiderate morons talking on cell phones at/during the OGR meeting Friday afternoon in the grandstand--but that meeting was never covered by the "no cell phone" policy in any case.

There will invariably be a couple like that in any crowd, I suppose.
I was surprised about the cell phone announcement just as Thursday York was about to take off...but was kinda amused when, suddenly, after all the complaining, they were allowed, followed up by several announcements that no photos were allowed. Now, since I am not tethered by phone to anybody, and nobody can yank that leash, I don't even carry it in the hall, and my antique doesn't have a camera....BUT..why can't all those cellphones with cameras sneak pictures with impunity? I have never
understood the no photos rule...(If you don't grab it when you see it..it'll be gone
in your next loop around...and it was long gone Saturday night...so??) Like the
cell phone rule it affected me not at all...but I do know..in restoring something like
a car, people take lots of photos of other identical ones so they can get theirs right..
so...and some people do restore damaged trains...why "no photos"?
I did not know they relaxed the cell phone rule. I was there on friday and i did notice one gentlemen standing at a table talking on his phone. At the time i thought it odd no one said anything, especially since he was loud. Now i know why. Since i was there all day and this was the only time i noticed a cell phone, i dont think the rule had much of a
bearring.
