I am looking for suggestions on what sound file to use in my PS2 ALCO FA2 engine (20-2332-1).  This set is from 2001.  I purchased it used a few years back.  It has a 3v PS2 in it.

I was quite disappointed with the horn in this engine.  The original speaker was not in good shape so I replaced it with one that has the foam surround maybe 2 years ago.  I have tried a few sound files and the one I currently have in the engine is from an SD-40.  I like the horn (dual tone) but I am sure the engine sound is not even close.

Does anyone have a suggestion on a sound file that would be more appropriate for an early diesel like the FA2?  I am not looking for perfect, but the stock sound file has a horn that sounds like it's a toy.

George, Thanks!  believe it or not, the SD40 horn sounds quite similar.  I will have to investigate how to edit the sound files further.  Maybe I could replace the standard sound file's horn with the one from the SD40 sound file.

Of course, I'm lazy and would like to find one that I didn't have to work on :-)

Thanks again.

Oh, I understand! So little time, so much to do!

If it has a 3 volt PS2 system, then it has been modified since it left the factory with a 5 volt system.

I own the companion NH and UP FA-2's from that same catalog and also owned the B&O model. All of them are 5 volt board models, as is also indicated in your engine's instruction booklet.

Regardless, if you go here and click on the Support tab, you'll find both the original 5 volt and (upgrade) 3 volt sound files for the engine. For anything else, you'll have to hunt around.

Barry,

I figured it was upgraded.  I just didn't know for sure.  I ran across the issue when I tried to put a 5v sound file in the 3v board.  The loader barked at me.

Hunting around is what I was doing for this.  I was trying to speed up the process.  As you know finding, downloading and then uploading the file into the engine to see if you like it is time consuming.  I think I might try the sound file "player" that was recently discussed on a thread here.  I may also try editing.

If I could just figure out how to manufacture time...

I found a few sound files. 1 PS2 RS-3, 1 PS2 RS-11 and a PS3 RS-11.  I tried the PS3 RS-11 first and that does the trick for me.  The horn is not an exact match to the sound clip George posted above, but it is close.

Thanks to all that responded and especially Pete for giving me the idea to look at the RS engine sound files.
