I just had an issue with PS2 3v GP-9 diesel where the sound abruptly stopped working, while all other functions continued normally. After trying, unsuccessfully the "feature reset", I decided to try uploading a new GP-9 sound file.

I've done this about 30 times before but this time I keep getting the failure message after "check engine state 3 times".

Tried a different 3v PS2 board - same result.

Tried a different computer - same result, even though both machines successfully uploaded files on previous occasions.

I'm using MTH Consumer Loader v2.3 and my TIU is version 4.20.

I can't figure out where I'm going wrong - can anyone suggest a solution?

I subsequently discovered that the original PS-2 board was OK - the speaker had failed!

I can only tell you what I would do.... Start over... reboot the computer .  If your tiu is tiu #1, I'd factory reset it.  , It seems the sound files are written to the tiu and then on to the engine. A reset of the tiu may clear out any unwanted files. Having said that I'm just guessing.   Keep trying... Does the loader find the engine?

John - v2.3 always worked before so I'm somewhat sceptical that the consumer loader is causing the problem.

Gregg - the loader finds the TIU and starts the upload but then fails after 3 attempts to check the locomotive state.

I'm going to try uploading a new file to a completely different engine later today to see if the problem lies in the specific loco I was trying to upload to.

It's 13A

Ah ha!

The sound file transfer process requires the highest DCS signal strength and will often fail if signal strength is less than 10.

Some I3a's had manufacturing signal strength issues right out of the box. If yours does not have a silver or white dot next to the I3a designation, it may need to be repaired.

If that's the case, call MTH and discuss this with a tech.

Alan,

I guess Barry does not know everything

While I certainly don't know everything about anything, I do know a fair bit about DCS. Also, I know how to read other member's posts.

I stated that an engine reset wouldn't help his problem and, to be sure, it would not and also did not.

However, it wasn't an engine reset that resolved the issue, rather, it was a TIU reset that allowed the sound file transfer to succeed.

Although the DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition can impart considerable DCS knowledge to the reader, sadly it does not improve reading comprehension in the least.
