I have an MTH premier Mohawk L3a 20-3372-1.

The sounds of the generator and air pump drown out the chuff sound--ie the chuff is significantly softer than the generator and air pump. This is for all levels of Engine Sound on DCS. None of my other MTH PS2 engines exhibit this phenomena. I did a factory reset to see if anything changed. No change. Everything else works normally.

Does anyone else who has this engine have a similar situation? Is this a problem with the sound set? Did MTH issue a revised sound set for this engine?

Thanks

Since making this post, I have tried reloading the factory sound set and found that the factory sound set has this same "defect."

I have called MTH Customer Service, described the problem and requested that a corrected sound set by provided.

After contacting Customer Service 4 times over the last few months, I was told that since nobody else has complained about this issue, it is not high on the prioity list for fixing.

While I will admit that it is harder to demonstrate a Problem with a sound set than it is to show that Lionel's recent Conrail diesel was not lettered correctly, l find the level and promptness of Lionel's response and Customer Service to be very different than what I have experienced from MTH.

If any of you have the MTH Premier NYC Mohawk and care about this defective sound, please contact MTH Customer Service and request a revised sound set be offered.

Thank you.

I noticed the same thing but with only a few MTH PS2 engines I thought this was typical of their steam engines. My only other MTH PS2 steam engine is a Dreyfuss Hudson and find the chuff in that sound set also pretty wimpy. A speaker upgrade on that engine was only marginally better.  I may try other sound sets from MTH but its way down on my to do list. Hopefully some of the MTH gurus will suggest a better sound set.

Pete

Norton,

This engine has MTH's "Higher Quality", rolled edge speaker--so it should sound better. The whistle is great--but the chuff is anemic and the excessively loud generator is annoying. Since this has the quillable whistle, I would like to keep this sound set-- but get it fixed.

If you ever want to upgrade the sound set, please contact MTH Customer Service and ask them to fix it.

I just loaded in the file. Sounds like they just adjusted the level of the chuff WAY up as a way to drown out the whine a little bit. End result, its LOUDER!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!

I didnt really have an issue with the original file, and I like the "Knickerbocker" PSA set thats in this file, and max volume is always the best way to go.

Thanks for sending me the file.

That was awful silly of me not checking that frist. i've have update my profile with my e-mail! Thanks

Is this "sound problem" a problem when these locos are run conventionally or strictly under DCS ?( maybe a stupid question)

Does it effect  all of the premier  mohawks, seperate sale and the ones in the sets.

Is it really an issue or more of a personal preference thing?

I'm considering one of the premier mohawk sets, and would be operating it conventionally via a LIonel TPC, obviously if theres a problem, I wouldn't be able to download a "corrected soundfile".

So does it effect every mohawk,or just the seperate sale ones?

I take it a conventional operator would have to find someone with DCS to make the necessary sound file change.
