Yes this show is worth attending. As has been mentioned this show is second only to York for the Eastern Pennsylvania area. As an additional note, a group of us forum members have breakfast gathering at the Hamilton Family Diner ( about two blocks from the show on Hamilton Street ) early Saturday morning ( about 6:30AM or so ) Early admit tickets for the show are available for purchase these get you in the show an hour early then regular time. We have a great time at breakfast and you are most welcome to join us

Enjoy

The Allentown "spring thaw" show is absolutely worth attending. Its on my "must event" list.  Two buildings full of trains, no empty table spaces anywhere and a large variety of stuff . The show sells out every time and is well attended. Its a 1hr:20min drive for us from NJ and I've always enjoyed going. When you get tired of buying trains, then hop across the street to the Allentown Farmers Market for an unbelievable selection of food vendors. It looks like a large barn that extends for over 1/4 mile. I am going for the trains while my wife will browse the show for 1/2 hour and head to the market which is more her thing.

Both the train show and the farmers market at the fairgrounds have websites. Check them out.

South of the Allentown Fairgrounds is Merchants Square Mall. Inside that mall is an O scale and O Gauge layout that had been located along Route 443 west of Lehighton. The most dramatic scene is a thunderstorm that actually rains into a lake. Flyers are available at the Allentown Train Meets but a first-time visitor may miss them. Current TWC 10 day shows highs of 30 and 36 for Sat/Sun in Allentown.

Think positive, it might be the start of the thaw!   (or at least it should be warmer than the rest of this work week)

That's a good point.

As horrible as the cold is, the parking lot is better frozen than swampy.  ...

Still a few days away, and anything can change.  But Saturday looks dry and still below freezing.  Sunday may be the wild-card with temps around/above freezing and snow/rain possible.  So that may be the messy day for parking and travel.

My wife and I were originally planning a trip to the Lancaster area on Friday, but decided to put that off for warmer weather. Then we planned to go to the Allentown show, but my brother died on Sunday, so the funeral will most likely be on Saturday. I teach sixth grade CCD, and this April is Confirmation, so Sundays during the school year are out. Either way, my sister and brother from Maryland and New Yor respectively will be in through Sunday. I was going to meet a friend from New Jersey there on Saturday, but his wife died this past weekend as well.

Thank you Frank. A friend from work is going, as are some other friends, so I'll get a report next week.

Don

THANK YOU for all the kind words!  We appreciate that you appreciate us!

Dennis.  I'm sorry but I think I may have put a minus number in front of your 10 degree temperature request.  I do like how a local weather woman put it,  "you don't have to shovel cold."  I'll take that at this point.  If you're looking for the silver lining Sunday promises to warm up.  Relatively speaking, of course.
