Hello all, I am having problems with my super 381 by MTH. When trying to pull 6 state cars, the loco just shuts down when I reach about 4 amps or 16 volts. Any idea why it does this? How do I fix this? I found a temporary fix...If I run just the loco by itself and run it to max speed for a short time, then run it around the layout at 16+ volts, it works just fine. But, when I couple the state cars back on it will run fine with the cars, until I turn off the Z4000 and turn it back on later. Then, it does the same thing, stops at 16 volts. Any help will do. Thanks, Jeff

Does the loco shut down, or does the breaker blow?
The loco shuts down. I just tried something last night that might have worked. I tried resetting to factory defaults. One horn and 5 whistle taps on Z4000. Seems to have worked. I will run it more today and see if its okay.
Outstanding!
My super 381 is acting up again. The loco is coming to a dead stop and sounds are restarting and lights go out for a few seconds then come back on. I had the throttle at 15 volts and it just stops. Also, about 4.3 amps. Any idea why it does this?? I am pulling 6 state cars. I tried resetting to factory default again. Does not work anymore.
It helps if you provide the product number.
The product number is: 11-2015-1
Try disabling the cruise control. How clean is your track. Are both motors running?
Can you connect it to a full DCS system?
Thanks. First some basics. Check for gear binding. Have you lubed recently?
Hello, Both motors are running. Track is new MTH track, but I will clean all of it now. Any suggestions on the best way to clean the track? I have a bottle of this blue stuff I used on my O gauge track. Will that stuff work? I will check for gear binding. I honestly have not lubed it since I got it maybe 2 or 3 years ago. Used it only a handful of times so far. Just follow the manual on how to lube it?? How do I disable the cruise control?? Thanks.
yes, lube it. It needs it. The gears may be dry and binding after running a bit. Try this first, then go to the DCS stuff.
My DCS Stuff is not hooked up right now. Just running the super 381 off my Z4000. Just got done lubing the loco. I will see if that did the trick. Thanks.
You might want to try posting on the DCS Forum. The electronics experts hang out there and they are more likely to see your question there than here.
