I have a steam engine that jumps the track because the tether.it onlso does this on sharp corner that I have but it's the only engine that I have that does this ,all other engines are fine . is there a way I can make the tether not so stiff so it doesnt makes the train jump the track.

What engine? what type of track? how sharp of a corner?
All those questions really don't matter because I already know that the tether is making the engine jump the track. The wire is stiff that it twist the wire on the turnout and lifts the train up and off the track.
Open the tender and pull out a little more of the tether wire.
I have had this problem, also turning the testher wire inside the tender can also help.

Ok that worked but now the problem it shut on and off .when I push on the tether it starts. The pins are loose in the tether . Maybe a new tether will work.
I had to replace a tether plug into the back of an MTH Big Boy because the previous owner had somehow yanked it and damaged the wiring at the plug. Probably because the tether was too short for sharp curves. When I rewired it, I bundled the tether wires with thread and omitted the heavier plastic encasement for the four wires. Also made sure it had suffifient slack for going around curves.
It be relevant for the original poster to tell us what engine he has.
It is a mth railking Dreyfus upgraded to a 3volt board.
