Good morning and welcome to STEAMday Sunday, the place to post photos, videos and comments about steam locomotives of all kinds.

Please be sure to post only photos and videos that you have taken or those in which you have the written permission of the owner to post them here.

I will start us off with my cutest steamer, the LC+2.0 Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal (B.E.D.T.) steam switcher shown in the video below hauling a few beer reefers and a caboose around the old ball park:

Now, let’s see the steamers you would like to share today.

Hello, StDaySun fans!  Welcome to the second half of New Haven weekend on the Steam Crazy Lines!

Representing the NH today is my Atlas 0-6-0 no. 2334.  No. 2334 has been converted to MTH PS3 due to an incident with the original Atlas tether.  She is shown hauling a train of military vehicles destined for Fort Devens, MA to the NYC yards in Worcester, MA.  Yesterday, we saw the NYC moving the train to the B&M yard; maybe we’ll see the B&M move to Devens next weekend?  Stay tuned!

John

Thanks Arnold for keeping the boiler fired up and the running gear lubed to get us rolling today!   Your 0-6-0 looks great hauling those beer cars ... to Yankee Stadium for today's game I presume?

Today I have some earlier morning shots of a Western Maryland Consolidation on the service track as it has been tended to by the locomotive service team.   It's now already for this day's assignment.    Also further down the post is a 4-6-0 Lackawanna Camelback with a commuter train at Patsburg's Commuter Station.  On the adjacent track is a set of B&O RDC cars which present a sharp visual contrast with the Camelback.

The Camelback is a scale brass locomotive by Williams and the Consolidation is a Lionel scale product with TMCC.  Both locos are reliably great runners/pullers.

New York Central 0-8-0 steam locomotive #415 is an MTH Railking model (30-1123-1, MSRP $399) with PS1 that was delivered in 1997. It’s been running on my layouts for twenty-six years and has been a bargain in terms of initial cost per hour of operation. And it still looks brand new. I think of it as a postwar Lionel engine with sounds, a smooth-running mechanism, and a DC motor. It can run quite slowly if the throttle is handled carefully…

Photos and video taken on my 10’-by-5’ layout.

Patrick, as always, I appreciate the time and effort you spend in creating these enjoyable scenes. Do you have a rail yard where you set up your engine/rolling stock consist or just take them off shelves and set up on a main line prior to your pics and videos?

Hi Gene - thank for your kind words!   Funny you should inquire about my having a rail yard or not.  Actually I don't have a yard as of now .... however I am in the process of adding a small one ( 3 tracks ) to my layout.  Doing so requires relocating my control panel to a new shelf which I've almost completed doing ... still have to move my Z4000 to the new shelf.  Other transformers and the TMCC base have been relocated to new panel shelf.

Until the new layout yard is complete  I'll  continue to pull cars from one or all four of my " Shelf Yards" one  'Box Yard" and one "Under Table Yard" to construct consists.   I'm looking forward to the new yard on the layout because it will bring added "play" value and create more interest not just for me, but also for guests who come view the layout.

As of right now my loops do have some sidings for industry however it can become  a bit boring just watching the trains go around in circles.  And, at the same time,  I must admit there are times I sit on a stool at the entrance of my train room and totally enjoy watching three trains running ( two on the main table & one up on the mountain ) with a trolley running on the elevated line as I sip a cup of coffee or tea.

In addition to constructing a new yard on the layout, I'm also creating a new long industrial spur with a  couple of sidings for industry.  This spur will allow me to simultaneously run a switcher to service industries as the other 3 trains run the loops.   The yard may allow for simultaneous switcher operation as well ... the three track yard will have a lead off the outer main loop ... however the yard will be relatively short and may not accommodate a switcher shuffling cars.    We shall see.   My experience tells me that planning is very important, however, once I'm into a project I've always run into an unanticipated problem which required me to improvise a bit.  The improvisation usually results in an even better idea .. lol!   Time will tell!

I hope you're having a wonderful Labor Day weekend Gene!

Thank you for the explanation of your future plans. Sounds like lots of cool scenes in the future.👍 Enjoy your weekend!

Well last Sunday I posted my Marx Red Commodore Vanderbilt (CV) from 1938-39 so today I am posting my Marx Black Commodore Vanderbilt from 1936-1937 and her train.   She is most definitely pre- war as her consist and tender are all 8-wheel 6" cars including the NYC wagon top tender and the passenger car consist.  Marx did not make the 6" cars in 8 wheel after the war.

Here she is in the front view, a bit a "patina" showing on her lower front skirt but the CV plates on the side boards and the NYC oval are still intact.

Marx Black CV loco [1936-37) front

Here is a look at her 8 wheel wagon top tender, again this only made in the pre-war era.

Marx Black CV loco [1936-37) rear quarter w 8 wh tender

Finally here she is with her 6" 8 wheel passenger / baggage car consist.

Marx Black CV loco [1936-37) side view w train

She was not an "official" set as Marx made very few set with the 6" 8 wheel cars and they were all Freights using the "one-way" coupler to allow automatic coupling.  However nearly everything in Marx was available for separate sale hence you could easily assemble your own passenger set as is likely how this set evolved.  It came to me in this fashion quite a few years ago so I keep it as a passenger set.

Best Wishes

Don
