I am fortunate enough to live 10 minutes from Steamtown in Scranton Pa.   My boys and I got lucky on Saturday and was able to see them Put Canadian National # 3254 to bed.  She is a 2-8-2 Mikado built in 1917.  My oldest son now wants to incorporate a roundhouse into our growing empire.  I will have to now come up with a way to expand our layout a bit to fit a small yard.  Sometimes the real thing can jumpstart projects that sorta loose steam !!!

That's funny Glenn... My wife & I have been there several times & it has influenced my choices in a number of purchases.  My hopes to add a turntable & roundhouse are right there with your son's.   I have aquired a fondness for CN stuff as well.  And I plan on a Mikado @ York from watching that loco run.  Love that smell of steam locos.

flmtrain,  my son has them in his ipod .  I cannot even turn the stupid thing on and get it to play music let alone get a pic out of it.  Woojr  we were able to watch a diesel loco be put away first.  It took the crew 5 minutes to shut her down.  The steamer on the other hand was a 35 + minute job.  The train crew taped on every nut and bolt with a hammer as well as every wheel and rod that you can think of .  While all this was going on another crew member was draining oil and water out of several ports on the beast.  The diesel era put a whole class of worker out of a job when that Milwaukee road bipolar outpulled those two steamers that fateful day.
