Working on my subway station this past weekend.
I decided on the lighting and am using battery-powered LEDs.
I have downloaded some NYC subway station tile pictures. I plan on transferring them to overhead transparency paper and then applying them to the tile background.
I will use rub-on lettering for the station identification. I plan to call the subway stop ELLISON SQUARE, in honor of Frank Ellison of Delta Lines fame.

That looks like that will be one really nice station when it's finished Peter. When choosing the lighting for my subway stations, I ended up using small florescent lights as they gave correct color when using a video cam. All of my subway stations have video cams due to the mostly out of view locations.
Great looking station Peter. I like the battery powered LED idea. Less wiring and you don't have to worry about a power supply. Just a simple on/off switch. Battery should last a while with LED's.
I'm planning a subway line in the future. I need to finish the main level first. But I just got notice from Charles Ro. stating that my Lionel MTA M7 Lionchief set is on its way north!

Thanks for the comments.....the next step won't be as easy, I'm afraid.....I plan to capture pictures of a suitable NYC subway mosaic from pics on the net....then, resize them.....and, lastly, transfer them to overhead transparency paper and paste it to the tile walls....
I hope to accomplish this part by the spring (because it's fall and train-running time is here with the modular group!).

Glad someone else is doing subways.
I used 2 -4’ florescent on top of the 2 Penn Station modules and 1 for Jay St.
The module tops have cut-outs in the ceiling to let the light shine down.
The light housings are painted black as with the subway module boxes.

Looks like you're off to a good start. I'll be interested to see this when it's all done. It should make for a great scene on your layout.

Easier said than done!!! Most pictures of the subway mosaics I have found re taken at an angle to prevent flash overexposure That gives the sign an obtuse geometry Very hard to find rectangular pictures
Most of the signage in my photos was made on the PC using excel. 
Also copied the subway nut site for all other station signage - http://subwaynut.com/stations.htm
