Since I bought a DCS outfit last week and own ZERO MTH engines I need a recommendation for a engine that has enough features on it that I can test DCS and do such things as change sound files, but not break the bank. I would be interested in a early early diesel (50's to 1970) in UP, SP or Santa Fe.

Any suggestions?

Find a UP U30C.

Marker lights, roof beacon, PFA, idle sequence, all the bells and horns, has the SXS soft key (RR Crossing horn squence) etc.....

Most of them these days are pretty well loaded.

Only thing with the U30 is that its got a great sound set in it from the get go, you might not want to change it.

For sheer volume of sound sets, pick anything that they make many runs of, although sometimes not much changes in the sound set (sometimes its just the PFA sequence and cab chatter that changes).

The tunnel motors are also loaded with lighting features. I think they even have a directionally functional red gyralight.

Chris, Any engine including starter set engines with PS-2 in them would be good for testing.  Same board regardless.

I would pick something with PS-2 3V boards.  The main difference as you ramp up the line is the addition of markers, number boards, MARS, etc...

The starter set diesels that are out now, have Cab, ditch, smoke.  If you want an engine that is a keeper, then pick something you like.  G
