I am attending York for the first time this week. Really excited after reading about everyone's great experiences there.  I will be arriving Wednesday for the DCS User's Group Meeting and attending the show all three days.  I was curious if anyone has suggestions for which hall to start with on Thursday. Is it best to start in the dealer halls or the member halls? Any opinions would be appreciated.  Look forward to hopefully meeting some of you all at the show.

Here is what I did the first time I went.

Day #1:  Orange Hall

Day #2:  Silver, Blue and Red halls

Day #3:  White Hall, and then I went back to re-look at some things.

If you get done early, go to the next day's schedule.

Frankly, if you do not see it all, that is fine because you will have seen something that peaks your interest and if it delays you (per your schedule) and you do not see everything, so be it.

Stay hydrated and eat meals.  It will help you become energized.  Bring some patience, Tylenol and spare coins or singles for the bathroom attendants.  (who keep it very clean).

Good luck.  Have fun.

If you move fast, it can be done in one day. I did it in one day last Spring, covering the Orange hall twice along with the others.

Unfortunately, since my schedule was still undecided, I missed early registration so I'll be at  registration first, then likely stay in Memorial Hall and go from there. I plan to do the marathon one day. I'm lucky that York is only about a 2 hour drive through the Catoctin Mountains and farms from my home in Potomac, MD.

If you can spare it, and lets face it, if we are going to York, we can, give the bathroom attendants a bit more than a few cents or a buck or two. I've got a pile of $20s specifically earmarked for my pee breaks.

Depends what you are looking for.  New stuff (dealer halls) = Orange, Brown, Purple halls.  Previously owned stuff (member halls) = all the rest Silver, Black, Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, White.  LOL.   Not really all of those but after you walk thru all of them it seems like it.  I always start in the Orange hall.

The Orange Hall has all the new and latest items from major manufacturers and also the larger retailers of train products, some of whom advertise on here.  Those retailers generally are well-stocked or can you the items you want if they are out through their mail order.  The other halls generally have smaller retailers and a lot of used stuff if you are looking for that, as well as some new things in boxes that are scattered about the various tables.  My personal preference is to go the Orange Hall first.  Afterwards, you will walk up and down the aisles in the other halls but often forget where you might have seen what you wanted because of the enormity of it all.  It is rather hard to shop around in those other halls because you can easily misplace where the particular vendor that had the item you wanted is located.  They just might have a small table with no dealer sign; so you can easily get confused.  If you make a cursory trip through the aisles just to find the best price or highest quality of used stuff try to jot down on a sketch where each of the dealers having that item are located. Otherwise, once you go through all the aisles, it is easy to forget where those particular dealers are located.  You can secure a chart of the dealers in the Orange Hall, but, unless things have changed, the smaller dealers in the other halls are not so specifically designated.  Good luck and happy hunting.....

I've been once so I'm certainly no expert, but...

I went with a small list more interested in meeting some of the guys, the OGR event in the grandstand, hot dog social, Thursday at Fridays.  I think you get the picture.

I may have picked up a couple small items on the first day, but just taking everything in was truly a treat!! It's fun to wander and not be on a mission. Second day I picked up a few more things and noticed a million things I didn't see the first day!

Have a great time and happy hunting!!
