Here are a few of the scenes worked on recently on the home layout. Guys trying to negotiate, BTW all the trees in the background were scratch made. The track side details were made from scrap track the RR Tie bundles were taken from odd cut leftover Gargraves and the extra rails were from a pile of broken Atlas switches which I dismantled and painted as a rusty. The Solid rail from Atlas make them the far better than the tubular track pieces . The American Red Cross Passenger cars were picked up here on the Forum "for sale" section a few weeks ago. Lets see what you have this week

Finally started a new project. A small dio using the cider mill on hillside from last layout.

the florida shrink...In florida the pink foam is pretty hard to find, so beaded foam is used.  KISS...Only use a hot wire foam cutter to avoid all the mess. I have a great story about this from a show I attended...

For those new to using foam, one little trick when gluing blocks together (in this case the small ridge in background), is to press a few drywall screws to hold foam together while glue sets.

The stone walls ( resin) were spray painted grey...

Then I used hunterline stains to get a the contrasts.

The one negative thing about these resin stones was the pits. Actually not really visible expect when doing this very close up photo

The next step is to spread the fusionfiber and use this to set the foundation in so it actually looks like its in the ground.  The long drying time makes it easy to work with and can be changed when a mistake is made, or if its not quite level. When satisfied with position I will add a bead of grey caulk to top of stone and set building onto it.

After the foundation drys, I'll do the backdrop then re-wet the fusionfiber to add static grass and ground covers.  Have become big fan of static grass, since its so easy with fusionfiber and really adds to scene. I put heaver covers down first then do static grass, let dry and lightly vaccuum off excess.  The key is to let it dry throughly and do it near the end.

Here is old scene without static grass.

Have a good week...Time to go fishing
