I HAD BEEN RUNNING THIS POST DURING THE WEEK BUT WANTED TO SHARE THIS IN THE SUNDAY SHOWCASE.

THIS WAS A CUSTOM STRUCTURE I HAD BUILT FOR A CUSTOMER SOME TIME AGO, WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL REQUEST TO ADD THIS TO OUR KIT LINE.

WE ARE IN THE DESIGN STAGE AND SHOULD BE ASSEMBLING THIS SOME TIME NEXT WEEK. PLANS ARE BEING WORKED TO ALLOW THIS STRUCTURE TO BE BUILT IN ANY CONFIGURATION  YOU DESIRE. WE WILL FOLLOW UP WITH FURTHER DETAILS AND PHOTOS AS THE PROCESS OF DESIGNING PROGRESSES.

O SCALE FACTORY

MAY 11TH, BEEN WORKING HARD ON THIS KIT AND WAS ABLE TO DRAW AND CUT ALL COMPONENTS AND START THE ASSEMBLY. THIS KIT IS DESIGNED SO IT CAN BE BUILT IN MANY CONFIGURATION.  IT IS BEING ASSEMBLED CLOSE TO THE ORIGINAL ONE I BUILT YEARS AGO.  THIS FOOT PRINT IS 19 X 12 WITHOUT DOCKS, RAMPS AND STAIRS.

 Updated May 13th

Added close to 40 Windows and doors.  Added docks, ramps and stairs, Trim and roofing should be completed today. During design we made several changes that will be reflected in the final kit. During this build we are developing the instruction so we need to go slow.  This kit will have 2 main structures and 5 additional out buildings that can be used in many configurations with minor alterations. Enough windows and doors will be provided with the kit for every opening. Every wall component is engraved so all the buildings can be stand alone.  Will post complete structure as soon as its completed.

Price TBA

Alan, outstanding work (as always!) on the house!  I may be contacting you in the near future regarding another custom build for me.  Thanks for continuing to share your work with us, and for starting this weekly SSS thread.

Richard, I’ve been meaning to say welcome to the Forum, and thanks for your sponsorship.  You have some really nice offerings...almost makes me what to try kit building!

Dave, nice job on your building. How did you get such good separation between brick and mortar....................Paul

Paul, I was wondering the exact same thing!  I often see people's attempts to represent mortar lines where the mortar color ends up not only between the bricks, but all over the bricks themselves...thus causing an awful-looking white haze over the entire building.  The bricks end up looking very muted and lose their individual color/character...at least IMO anyway.

Dave, can you share your method with us?

Wow. Really nice work this week guys.  SIRT your weathering is just outstanding.

i finally got around to completing a rock wall face that I started before I expanded the layout.  Like the walls near the coal mine this is done with ceiling tile.  The tiles are broken to form an uneven edge and stacked.

I paint in Two processes, first is a spray paint using rustolium camo earth brown, this is to get in all the small cracks since the tile is light.   Next I used earth color flat brown latex paint. When the latex paint is still wet I took some fine turf "grass" ground cover, poured some in my hand and "blew" it into the wet paint.  This represents grass growing in the crumbling rock wall.

Here are some photos the first shows the contrast between the unpainted tiles and the first spray paint coat.

The mortar is just Roberts. Nothing special. I wipe it with a dry cloth and dust it with whatever color I used for the bricks.  This will tone it down quite a bit.  Sometimes I will hit it with a light wash of ia.

Dave, will you share with us how the advertisements on the side of the buildings are done? I want to do some of those  on my buildings in the future.
