Thanks Aaron. The sanding and filing for paint will take a couple of weeks.

I have been follwering you thread from the beginning and the cab forward looks great. When it is all painted it will be something to be proud off.
Thanks Dave. I really am concerned about the reassembly sanding and painting. I want to get an overall smooth paint application and then some light weathering.
Fingers crossed.

Ron,
No sweat, you got this bro. A clean, smooth surface is the key to beautiful paint work.
It's raining here in the Houston area today, so no trial painting.
Shot a couple of iPhone videos of the locomotive trial fitted together and running
again. Having added a bunch of detailing some tweaking is required to get everything to line up on this articulated.
Beginning masking and painting today.
Can't wait to see the finished product!

Beginning masking and painting today.
Depending on the era you are modeling, the SP no longer lettered the tenders sometime after the early 1950s.
That's true, but steam was all but finished by then. Lots of cab forwards made it all the way to the scrap heap with tender lettering.
My era is late 40s to mid fifties.
Ron
Finally, have begun to mask the loco for paint. Unfortunately, it has been humid and raining in the Houston area for a couple of weeks, so I'm waiting on lower humidity. Can't wait to get this project done.
Pics soon. If it will ever quit raining.
I can't wait to see it!
Like the rest of your work, I'm sure it'll be great
Ah YEAH!
The magic has begun!
We'll see.
OK, Now seriously finishing the cab forward. Dry weather in Houston last couple of days and doing some final painting before assembly.
I'm painting the black parts a satin engine black using 1/2 scalecoat 1 engine black gloss and 1/2 scalecoat flat engine black, 50% thinned with lacquer thinner.
I think it is going to come out pretty good.
It looks **** good.
The finished model will be awesome. Can't wait.
Ron...enjoyed catching up on this thread! You are doing an expert job...can't wait to see the final product!
Alan
Hot water, show us some of your detailed modeling skills. I'll bet you've got a lot of beautiful engines you've upgraded and brought up to rivet counting perfection. I could never hope to have the knowledge or skill set of you folks, but I sure do enjoy following threads such as this. Thanks, I'll look forward to future posts.
I like it, Ron. All the details you added have 'fattened up' the CF and greatly improved it. It doesn't even look like a Williams model anymore!
Heck of a great job you did on that locomotive Ron. I like your clouds too.
What a difference a year makes:
Finally, almost finished with engineer side. Flex couplings on and a bunch of other stuff nobody cares about. But, this week will be done on this side and can finish up the fireman side.
Hope that ya'll that have followed the rebuild will enjoy these IPhone videos.
Wow Ron, great job on the paint and finishing. Looks awesome. I went back through this thread and can't believe the difference. Amazing work. A real beauty you built.
I'd hire you but I think Key Models will first...
Did you build the coal tower also?
look forward to seeing the other side.
Aaron
Thanks Aaron,
The coal tower is a scratch built item I picked up on E Bay a couple of years ago.
I like it and will go in the servicing area I will start on soon.
Ron
Ron, I want to thank for sharing this build, I'm thinking of buying a Williams Cab Forward. I see you or should I say I hear that you've solved the "Growler Noises". I like the paint you toned it done exceeding well. I didn't see in the tread that you re-decaled the engine.
John
Thanks John,
Once you replace the electronics with ERR cruise the growling goes away. Same with the beautiful masterpiece Hudson and pecos river locos.
I did not replace the decals.

Ron, Thanks, just one more question and I promise I won't bother you again. How did you handle the antenna lead , I have an idea on how to insulate the tender body from the chassis, and use plastic screws but what about the antenna lead ?

John,
I don't remember but tomorrow Friday, I've got to take the tender apart, cause I think a wire has come loose and I can see what I did.
Ron
Thanks for the photo Ron Have a good night
Ron,
Looks real good. I enjoy these updates.
What's next on the project list?
No work on the FEF in a while-life's been in the way, haha.
I am very near the end of this project !
Well, everything is ready, but as luck would have it the TMCC is working, but no power to the motor. So everything had to come apart and I'm searching for a solution.
SIGH !

After testing the tmcc for output I have motor drive, which means I have a bad plug somewhere in the system or a broken wire. I can wire the brushes directly to the ERR and it moves out as it should. Fix that and another re-spray and it is done. I've also been re-soldering some of the detail to make it handling proof.
SOON.
