SUPERLINER

The two parts remaining for this car are the windows and the roof; at this time they are current manufacturing. As I can't stay in front of my bench without working, I have begun to cut up some parts for the second one, the sleeping car; so I have a question for the OGR Webmaster: may I open another thread or keep on on the same one? It's however something different; I prefer to ask you; Thanks.

Have you seen the remake of the Italian Job film?  Last scene is filmed in the Superliner club car.  It's also the best footage on film to my knowledge of various UP diesel locomotives.  I think there are SD70 Aces and ES44s but I'm not much of a diesel guy.

Jpv - I worked for a French company for many years and saw this 2003 film for the first time in my hotel room in Paris (Levallois). If it helps, the title was "The Italian Job," but was written over with "Braquage à l'italienne."  You can likely search this scene on YouTube if you'd like - under either title.  

The last scene shows the car exterior, and then much of the interior as the stars (including Charlize Theron) do something very French - a champagne toast.

Window frames arrived today! now I have work to do: sand paper and file too!

The windowpanes will be transparent blue, the external circumference of the frames in black paint.

Let's go!

I have begun to paint the window frames today; the surplus of black paint on the outside perimeter of the frames you can see is not important; it will be hidden when inserting the frames into the sides of the car.

As I began to work on the superliner sleeper I will open another thread for very soon.

The first windows! 

and once in their locations:

I noticed 2 defaults when fitting:

a little gap on each vertical side,

the window frame is not enough thick to be taller than the side surface (lacks 1 mm). The side is probably a little more than 3 mm thick as planned on the drawings!

I have to modify the concerned 2D and 3D drawings for the next one.

And it's not the appropriate engine to pull this car!  ..........but it's the only one I have today and it was very useful to make the rolling attempts (which were successful )!

And now, c'est l'heure de l'apéritif!!!

I will not remake them! this car is a prototype made to correct the mistakes and omissions! the second one will be better but certainly not the best!!!

The windows for the second face are done; I install them today.

I received the pieces for the roof; lack some light pulls of file to fit them together:

Four parts because my friend's 3D printer can't make the roof in one shot!

Now, file, glue and paint!

I'm near the end (almost! )

I remind you that all the 2D drawings, 3D files and . stl files for this car and the other to come are at your disposal; just ask me!

Back to the forum after some days of work on my terrace and outside with spring coming!

I began again today with the lights on the upper level:

The little gap between the roof and the face will desappear when these two parts will be glued; I'm waiting for a 3D piece which will connect the roof and the side together all along the car.

I am looking forward to that, as I rode across the country on the Capitol Limited, then the Empire Builder (all the way, on each train, from DC to Seattle). So, I spent a few days in sleepers and I have a real affinity for them. I can't wait to see how good of a model you make of one!

This is certainly what you call "real" modeling.   It'll be cool to see detailed pictures when one is done, looks like an impressive build.

My "3D Guy" has had many problems with his 3D printer, that's why I didn't write anything!

I received yesterday the last parts I was waiting for: luggage racks for lower and upper level. What's more, the upper level part must be used for the assembly of roof and faces! here is one copy of each lower to the left.

The following 3D drawings show you the way they will be fitted:

It remains now to paint them and fit...

If you're glueing it shut, are you leaving it empty or will you put in any passenger figures?

Hello,

I made this morning the assembly jig for the roof and the sides of the car; now I let it dry before gluing these parts together!

It's made of cardboad; the roof is held in place by 4 little pieces of cardboard at each side of the jig and verified with a spirit level and locked with clamps; then the side is inserted between the vertical part of the jig and the luggage rack (in brown) to be glued.

Once glued these 2 parts will be turned to 180° to glue the other face to the roof.

Easier to write than to do!

I tried to respect the appearance of this car that you can see everywhere in your country and that I can only see on photos or videos; but it's possible to do a better one! I'm sure! that's why I began a second one and as I have already said, this one is a prototype made to discover errors of different kinds and to correct them; all the 2 and 3D drawings are already modified!

Old ROCO track I purchased 30 years ago....and ballast made of real crushed stones made by a french little craftsman who doesn't exist anymore...it's a shame because it was perfect......
