Don, your layout rating of 7 might be correct but your location in Maui, Hawaii has to be a solid 90.  If I could be rich and afford to live where you are I would be spending more time at the beach looking at swim wear  and drinking Mai Tai's at the local watering hole.  Between those two activities there would be little time for trains.  Oh, the hill country Ulupalakua Ranch Winery makes the best raspberry wine.

Probably a 5. I have an 8x20 with three interconnecting loops, two sidings and a dedicated trolley line.  My layout is very eclectic in nature because it has a little bit of everything to include post-war accessories, tinplate and some scale structures.  A purist would think its kind of goofy but I love it.

I think that sums it up best, I agree it can get a bit muddy trying to place your layout on the scale based on 1 being No Scale and 10 being O Scale since the majority of us tend to mix it up when it comes to what we have and what we run and our skill levels but if you're happy with it that's what counts.

Zero if the criteria is scale. But the thread struck me as perhaps unintentionally humorous as I have three layouts ( Garden , Clockwork and Tinplate) and if the criteria is how complete or how satisfied I am with any of them, it depends on what mood I am in..Sometimes they look just o.k Sometimes I am struck by my own brilliance. Sometimes I think I could throw it all in the trash and start over. I think we are the worst judge of our own work and it's an assessment fraught with subjectivity but the bottom line is that I enjoy them, so if enjoyment is a rating..( if everything is working as it should, otherwise then the rating plummets) I would give them a seven. I redid a Marx Crooks and one commenter said "You ruined it but it looks great" So where does that fall?  Your guess is as good as mine.

My layout is under construction and there are a couple of realities that have me striving to be a 5 or 6.  First, the trackage is in ovals and not point A to point B.  Second,I have no desire to take the time or spend the money to convert my couplers to the more realistic Kaydee type.  Third, there is a lot of action packed into my platform with the potential of 6 trains of varying length running at the same time which is probably unrealistic.

Since I run scale only except for the Aero Train,I'll rate my setup in the middle of the pack,4-6.  But,I am having some fun.

I have 3 enlarged sheets of plywood 63" x 9 ft in the shape of a "U" 2 outer loops (inclosing the "U" (a duck under) and 2 dogbones. I can run 4 trains and a trolley

Scale- Compared to the layouts on the forum it is a (0) but in my mind it is a 6 with improvements all the time. I just do not know how to to senery.

Per your comment on a Marx layout being eligible to be a 10, I'd say the scale is more of how close the end result is in relation to the original vision. Personally, I'm rebuilding my layout, but the last one was probably a 5, mostly because I never really finished the scenery and never wired the building lights. So here I go, aiming for a 10 with the new effort, I'll start judging the outcome say around Christmas.
