Don . . . .

I interpreted your 1 to 10 rating to be roughly a scale of the level of realism (true to real world, or "scale" as some would say) of one's trainworld  -  not the owner's satisfaction with what he operates or collects.  If in fact this is a personal satisfaction rating, my railroad empire is a "10" to me.

At any rate, this has generated some interesting reading.

Mine could not rate above a 2 or 3 at the present time, but at least it has trains running and a track plan that is close to something I can live with (close, but not really 100% acceptable).  It will never attain a rank above 5 or 6 in my mind because I'm never completely happy with the results I achieve in layout building and am always striving to do more and to do it better.  About the last time I was close to being satisfied was with a tiny 4x6 that was the first O27 Lionel layout I built, in Hawaii, when I got back into this segment of the hobby.  Came out pretty darn good--complete with scenery, tunnel, operating accessories, etc.

Don, I'm going to say mine is a .5 at the moment.  I have some FasTrack with a few  switches on a 10' by 18" shelf in the garage at the moment.  I aligator clip power to the track from the TIU.  Just about everything is in boxes right now.   When my grandson spends some time with us, we set up a Garage Floor Central layout, take a few engines and a couple dozen cars out of the boxes. He has more fun setting it than actually the running trains.

Did not think you were being sinister.  Just did not understand the purpose of the survey.  Still don't.

I think mine is a 9. When done a 12. Lots of friends who know nothing about model trains thought my layout photos were actual aerial photos. I guess they do not know much about real trains either. LOL To a hi- railer. Maybe a five. To an operator, 3-6, to a modeler, possibly 5-8. Do I care what others think? Not really. But I do enjoy the compliments. And I doubt anyone would be rude enough to tell me that they they think that I wasted the thousands of hours invested. Fred

Lets see.. I'll take a point for each layout, take a point off for every carpet layout, add a half point for each elevated one and multi track, subtract one for running a lot of junk, Add two cause it all works. Subtract 4 for breaking Pyro toys. Add one because Ive owned most since I was a kid and kit bashed them back to life. Hey Im number one.....Oh wait, multi track ceiling shelf layout gets me four...operating accessories,.. 5 rocket launchers, pw gantry and pad on the floor, target ca.. and... oh no I was taught this madness by my Grandfather.

Rats! 11-Looks like I lose! ....or was it one?..or is it won?... Hold on I got some beauty in my eye

I have seen a lot of layouts.  I find it pretty amusing to see what everybody rates their layout at.  I would think the only one to be able rate a layout is a visitor to it not the owner.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  Seems that some people that say their layout is an 8 really own a 2 and some people that say a 2 really have an eight.  Thread should be what do people rate your layout at.
