It sounded simple. I wanted more traction than I was getting from the scale wheels of the new MTH Trainmaster (20-20127-2) and the picture of the "Easily Convertable" scale to high rail wheels (under "Proto-Scale 3-2, p.41 MTH 2012 vol 1catalogue) sure made the change over look simple-undo four screws, lift off the bottom plate, and drop the new wheels in place. The reality is the bottom plate won't lift up and looks like it is about to break as I not so gently pry upwards with multiple small screwdrivers. So what is going on? An overtight press fit, a hidden screw, bad karma? Anyone been here? Any help appreciated or I will have to show unexpected patience and wait to call Mike's service Monday. Russel

Hi Russ,

You should NOT have to do any prying to get the cover off the bottom of the trucks.  If you watch Erik's video that franktrain posted, you'll see how loose the bottom cover should be when all the screws are removed.

The two axle Proto 3-2 trucks require the removal of four screws (three on the cover, one on the pick-up rollers).  The three axle trucks have seven screws (five on the cover, two on the pick-up rollers).  Look carefully at the exploded view on page 41 of the catalog and you will see the five screws depicted around the two pick-up rollers.
