Switcher Saturday 03-26-22

Happy Switcher Saturday. Let´s continue the theme of trains in the rural landscape of Maine. Next week I get to start building the cityscape, but it will be some time before anything visible starts to emerge.

Here is my recently purchased 70 ton switcher.

Your Yardmaster, having enjoyed his trip South a couple of weeks ago to photo the NH, decided to go North today for some Maine RR action.

He lucked out and found MEC GP7 no. 562, heading up the daily milk train from Bangor to Portland.  The photos were shot in Gardiner, ME, where the rail line follows the Kennebec River.

He hoped to see our favorite modeler of ME railways, Johan, while in ME, but alas, didn’t see him.  He’s looking forward to seeing Johan’s contribution to SwSat today!

This week our intrepid railfan caught an ATSF 0-6-0 docksider shifting a few cars around on the RSJ&B.

The crew was assigned to move an Army flat and van to the work train on the high line, and then return a SF box car to the team track for loading before heading to the interchange.

Happy SWSAT everyone. This week I cleaned the Layout and moved the Coal Yard and added this Weaver RS-3 Reading. I still need to finish it like adding the Coupler's. Enjoy your weekend and John thanks again for always kicking us off.

Thanks for the great story and great pictures. Those milk cars are really great. Unfortunately, we didn't meet on your shooting trip, but hopefully that day will come too. Those milk cars are still on my purchase list and a few in Maine are waiting for my friend Gary to post to Finland. The Lionel GP7 also looks really good, at some point I will have a couple of new Bangor & Aroostook locomotives as soon as they are completed. 🤝 Johan

Too bad PC didn't use that paint scheme on other locomotives.  A GP38 or SD40 would have looked sharp painted like that.

Hello SwSat fans...What great pictures and trains everyone.  Today, my post will concentrate on one of my favorite type locomotives, the GE 44 T center cab.  These really work well on my very small and tight radii layout and seem to have no problem going over switches and other rough spots.  So here is the Williams by Bachman, Southern RR, GE 44 T on the Leonardtown and Savannah.

Here she is just leaving the industrial area by the Savannah wharf.

Here she is just entering the yard trackage with her small train in tow.

Here is a short video of her moving into the yard with her train.

Here is a shot of her moving through the crowded clearances of "Small Town" , close enough for the crew to grab a burger at McDonald's at lunch time.

Have a Great weekend all, #41 U.S. Army moving some freight.

It is late 1949, and old meets new while doing shifter work in the classification yard.  The C1 has a few more years before going to the scrape yard, but it is used less and less as more powerful diesels arrive, like the BS10.  As diesels go, the BS10 is an "older" model and first arrive 6 years ago.

The C1 is Weaver, the BS10, for Baldwin Switcher 1000hp (VO-1000), is MTH.

Looking great gang!  From saddle tankers to centercabs, and from full size to On3, there's a little bit of everything today.   Here's my PPL Montana lokie again, that somehow got dispatched to the Reading!?

Today on the FSJR it's mostly an SW day except for one Dockside photo.   Have a delightful weekend everyone!!  

A Baltimore & Annapolis SW9 switches some military equipment  destine for  the Patsburg National Guard Armory.

B&O SW9 switching at Butler Junction. Conductor Zeke Bevins observes from the caboose porch.

Ma & Pa SW1 brings a lumber train thru Butler Junction.

Showing decades of ware B&O Docksider 97, assigned to quarry duty, brings two gondolas of heavy stone and a 4 wheel caboose over the Bollman bridge on the Mountain Division.

B&O SW 9 doing scrap yard duty. Brakeman Ernest T. Bass has just thrown the switch into the scrap yard. Conductor Wiley Purdy rides the front deck of 594.

Rusty beat me to it, but I have three of these original Atlas releases.  They are DC 2 rail operation and run well.  I converted one to Kadee couplers and plan on doing the same to the other two.  I got them originally for $20 each.  Can't beat that!

We also have a few shots from the archives, namely an ETS mini-mallet,  and a former WM unit at the Middletown and Hummelstown RR.

Oooh that's a cool engine! I've only got the little American style 0-4-0 from ETS but it's a great little engine regardless.

The New Haven has switchers posted all over its system, mostly, but not always, Alco products.  No one has done a proper S2, so why not paint one.  This was formerly a Lionel Legacy C&O S2.  I enjoy customizing locos and freight cars to establish a prototypical fleet for my Midland Division of the NHRR.

Thanks to JHZ and all the contributors for another wonderful; SWSAT. 

The ETS switcher is really cool.

Cappilot the flat car with chlorine cylinders is an interesting car.  When I started my career as an environmental engineer one of the sewage treatment plants I worked on was still using chlorine gas for final disinfection so there was a little building with a storage yard with those cylinders.

Jonathan I love that Atlas Plymouth.  Occasionally I see a similar looking Rivarossi switcher on ebay.  I'm always tempted to bid but I'm not sure how to get it to run on AC if possible.
