Happy New Year Switcher Saturday crew!

In this weekly thread we focus on the (usually) smaller locomotives that do the big work of railroading.  Sure everyone can appreciate a long distance Express train, or  a unit train with plenty of head end power to make great time, but here we focus on the machines that make the actual delivery to the customer's dock,  that sort cars in the yard or move the big power around for servicing.   Without these nimble last mile specialists the big trains would be all for show!!

So please post a picture,  a story, a video,  or memory that is Switcher loco related.

All scales and gauges are welcome!  Everybody be nice,  and everybody follows the OGR tos regarding pictures.

Below is the Darstaed Jinty that is on my bench for overhaul and conversion to ac power.

Have a great day everybody!

Mine is in Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway colors. It is pulled a vintage car body to a museum where it will be fitted with an undercarriage.

I realized the other day that my British switchers are “Primarily” 0-6-0Ts. So this posed group is in “Primary” colors.....

All of these are 2 rail O scale. The red Hudwell Clarke “Janine” is from Ioxen Models. The yellow (improved engine green) LB&SCR Terrier “Thames” is Dapol and the blue SDJR 3T Jinty #23 is also from Dapol.

The two passenger cars are some of my scratchbuilds which I started making in 2020. My resolution was to keep up making cars for these switchers to shove around.

Happy New Year SWSateers!
I can’t wait to see what you guys post.

TALES OF THE DOCKSIDER

Question: When is “foreign power” not really foreign power?  Answer: when it’s Maine Central in Worcester, MA.

MEC power was frequently operated in B&M territory to equalize mileage.  MEC F3 671 is in Worcester after hauling the “East Wind” from Portland, ME.  The NH will deliver the train to it’s final destination, New York.

The MEC crew decided to shut down 671’s motor due to a loss in oil pressure.  NYC shop switcher X-8688 is assigned to the B&A roundhouse today, so B&M 0-8-0    613 has been dispatched to retrieve 671.

Well Happy New Year SwSat Fans...great pictures today like always.  SIRT, Steamcrazy, Johan the realism of your work is truly impressive, every time I see it.  RSJB18 - thanks for the view of the Lionel Scout and its lithographed cars...lots of boys got started with those sets under the tree so they bring special memories.  Fendermain I am going to add to your Santa Fe switching activity with some parallel work on the Leonardtown and Savannah.  In my world, the Kline Santa Fe Alco Switcher is in charge of the mid-day local, running the main between the morning rush south and the evening rush north.  The dome car is just managements latest ploy to try and win over some tourists to see the scenery.

Happy SwSat  everyone

Looking great as usual crew.

Coming soon to a Switcher Saturday near you:

Freshly won at auction today!  More pictures after it arrives, hopefully before next week.

Now I have to promise myself no more locomotive purchases until I get some loco's off the dead line and back in revenue service!!

That's a beauty! Is it a Right of Way? I've been tempted a few times when they come up on that auction site. They did a much better job that MTH did on these little tanks.

Love your videos Tom. You never know where the train is going to appear from. Great work.

@RSJB18

Yes it is a  Right Of Way offering.   I have never had one of their products but I read good things.   I got it for less than what they bay seems to be getting for them right now,  even with fees and taxes.  I hope it runs as good as it looks! ( This makes up for getting outbid on everything I thought was I interesting in the mth auction on Wednesday. )

so much lobster there! Best to visit in the summer or fall.

Great switching photos everyone, happy new year!

Leroof. I remember that. It's would be a great meet you guys. I have some friends too near Millinocket. We’ll probably fly to Boston and then rent a car. Then we have 10-14 days to explore Maine. It’s not much but better than nothing. The climate in Maine is very similar to here in Finland.

I seriously think this could be a lot of fun.  I have no idea when Covid will die down.   But if we aim for around mid June or early July when my kids are out of school I am definitely in.  My wife has wanted to visit Maine for a while.  I could go even later if it doesn't interfere with work projects. When do the leaves turn pretty colors up there?
