Good morning Switcher Saturday crew.   Late start this morning, sorry about that.

Today's kickoff image is a lionel Southern RS-3.

20211120_073212

Switcher Saturday is all about celebrating the smaller,  Jack of all trades machines that keep the RR moving both in the public eye and behind the scenes.

Switcher Saturday has only a few simple rules.   Keep the subject matter somehow Switcher related,  keep pictures and videos in line with the ogr tos, and have fun.  It always seems to work out just fine 🙂.

As a bonus to the image above,  I also caught this image recently.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Good morning fellow switcher fans!  JHZ563 thanks for notching out the throttle and getting us rolling this morning!  I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Here are a few pics of switchers in action on the Free State Junction Railway.

Ma & Pa SW 1 at Danlilu siding on the Mountain Division.  That's Jeb Crinkley and Snortz Lowbower on the front deck.  They are both brakeman on this job.IMG_4720

B&O SW9 creeps past an automobile unloading operation in Lower Patsburg around 1950. IMG_6596r

Pennsy A5 switcher number 94 after having served (  and continues to serve ) the FJSR for many decades. IMG_9122

This photo taken many decades ago when number 94 arrived on the property brand spanking new.  That's J.D. Powers, the former Superintendent of Motive Power, standing next to 94,  giving her the once over.  Knowing ol J.D.  as I do, he gave 94 a top notch inspection from locomotive's front coupler to the tender's rear.  Word is ol J.D. had an eagle eye for anything amiss, no matter how slight!  The fellas over at the round house say  J.D. was a tough ol codger to work for, but those who did had utmost respect for J.D. because they learned so much from him.  Although J.D. has passed on now,  his name is spoken in reverence everyday by the mechanics at the round house and back shop. Happy SWSat!

No worries on the start time Mr. Z. We will post no switcher before it's time!

I was hoping to unveil my ATSF BEEP upgraded to ERR this week but I hit some snags with the lighting work. I solved all of them so I hope to finish assembly this weekend. So here are some more pix from the archives.

Glad to hear you were able to resolve  the BEEP lighting upgrade issue, Bob.  As for JHZ and his late start, my theory is that he’s spending way too much time in that mattress factory behind the RS3 in his first photo, LOL!

Good to see you resolved the lighting issues Bob.    I was beginning to wonder if you had ended up at the end of your rope ( wire 😉)with this issue.

Nice looking array of switchers .👍

A few more photos of New York Central 0-6-0 #231, an MTH Premier model with PS2. This locomotive was designed by the United States Railroad Administration during World War 1. Driving wheels were 51 inches in diameter; steam pressure 190 pounds-per-square-inch; weight 165,000 pounds; tractive effort 39,100 pounds.

Who could blame him- chasing his kids around all day is exhausting. I remember those days fondly but I'm glad they are behind me now.

I gave up on trying to get the marker lights to run from the "feature" terminal on the ERR board. I decided to just power them directly from the track power terminals. In a way this may be better since they will indicate when the engine is powered up or not.

Thanks gents.

Due to a motive power shortage a leased W&LE GP40 (MTH) is handling the local this morning:

Actually, this loco belongs to the Delphos Canal Commission and is used on their display layout.  It had an electrical issue and they asked if I could take a look at it.  I found a bare wire, which I was able to fix.  I have been "testing" it on my layout to make sure I fully resolved the issue.  I might have to "test" it for a few days before I send it home.

Nice engine Tom. I just replied on your other thread too.

I think I'd need to "test" it for a few days too.

A quick google search yielded this. Looks like it may not be too "foreign"to the PC.

Happy SWSAT,

Here is another photo of the Williams C and O GP30 and, a just delivered minutes ago, Williams 44 T in Pennsylvania livery.

Also, my photo of a 20 ton Model JLB Plymouth built in 1949 taken at the Arizona Railway Museum.  It was put into service for smelter operation located in Hayden, Arizona.

Thanks for the link.  The W&LE has somewhat of a connection to Delphos.  The AC&Y western terminus was in Delphos.  The line from Delphos to Carey was abandoned and torn up.  From Carey eastward the tracks remain and are operated by W&LE.  W&LE also has trackage rights over the Chicago, Ft. Wayne & Eastern (CF&E) ( former PRR FT. Wayne Line) into Lima, which is about 15 miles east of Delphos.  I have, on occasion, seen W&LE motive power pass through Delphos as run through power on the CF&E.  So in a "What If" scenario W&LE could have very well been active in Delphos.

Tom

When the H6 first appeared on the rails around 1900, it was PRR's primary mainline freight hauler.  It went through several iterations over the next decade and a half, with the last few built being upgraded with superheaters in the 1920s.  These excellent small steamers lasted until 1952, first being downgraded to short lines, then locals, and finally as switchers.  One of the last, 2318, is seen here in late 1949 moving some reefers to the ice house.

The H6sb is 3rd Rail, the reefers are Atlas.

Wow folks, great switcher pictures today.  Bob, glad you found a solution to that vexing light problem, I had been following your progress over the last several posts.  Your collection of RS-3's was really neat as well.  jhz...loved the Southern switcher and seeing the 1:1 version was really neat as well.  leapinlarry, that is some patriotic red white and blue presidential engine. Artie, nice rescue job on that Lionel "44 toner" that never really looked like a "44 toner" in the first place but it looks good now!   Today I decided to try and post a couple of my "new" switcher videos.  I will admit up front this process is not my strongest suit.  First up is my Lionel GP -7 with a string of box cars.

Next up is my UP 45 ton switcher with a short freight through town.

Hope this works.

A Lackawanna 44 ton (okay, maybe it’s 88 ton) switcher travels light through Lionelville. This was a Lionel Northern Pacific switcher that was pretty beat-up cosmetically, that I restored, and painted and decaled after a real Lackawanna 44 ton switcher. It also has an added MRC sound module.

Nice restoration Artie .    you'd never know it was an 88 ton or 44 ton or............a Northern Pacific or that it was beat up.       Don't hear the sound though 😉

The K-Line Collectors Club has a prototype. Nice.

Wow! Lots of great stuff today, fellers!  Have a safe and very Happy Thanksgiving.

Christmas decorations come out next Friday at The Lazy W. Where does the time go?? Gotta break out my Christmas trains on the layout: I have that Angela Trotta Thomas three-car Baby Madison set from a few years back and it is a real beauty. Plus the Christmas Story Steam set to run alternately. All very festive.
