Switcher Saturday 12-4-21!

New York Central USRA 0-8-0 #415 steam switcher (Railking 30-1123-1 PS1) was delivered in August 1997. So, it has been running on my layouts for 24 years. It doesn’t have speed control but runs smoothly on O-54 curves at moderate speed and has a BCR. Since it’s an NYC engine, I run it with cars that operated in the New York area such as by Waldbaums (a supermarket) and Schaefer Brewing (in Brooklyn).

Good morning, SwSat crew!  I’m short of time this morning because I’m going to a train show (hooray!), so a trip to the photo archive is in order.

NYC shop switcher, 0-4-0T no.  X-8688, is towing mighty Mohawk no. 3000 to the shop.  The Yardmaster doubted X-8688’s ability to move this monster, but her crew knew she could handle the task with ease!

Good morning switcher fans!  JHZ563 great Christmas tree switcher!  AND thanks for notching out the throttle to get us started this morning!   Great pics and videos everyone!  Got to make it brief today so here is a photo of a B&O GP9 shoving a car load of black diamonds onto a siding while MOW workers keep on working and not even noticing the activity behind them.  Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!

Penn Central GP9 7180 (Atlas O) runs lite with a transfer caboose.  I don't know if it is heading out for the day, finishing up the day or just running laps around the layout while I work on another project

Good Morning SWSAT people. Hope all is well your pics look good I miss being here finally life is slowing down and I can enjoy some train time. John ok you did it you put me in the mood to put the Christmas Train up around the tree yours looks nice. For today here’s some of my favorites of all the Switchers the Lionel NW2. Enjoy your weekend.

I noticed a certain box squirreled away in one of our rooms.  A quick inspection, reboxing, careful placement back, and no one is the wiser, not even Santa. A similar sized box is now wrapped and sitting under our Christmas tree.  As George Costanza once said, “was that wrong”?  LOL!  It’s definitely the start of a wonderful Christmas season -

PS, don’t tell the wife, LOL! By the way Trainworld/MTH did an excellent job with this RS3 switcher.  Now I have a few weeks to plan on how I’m going to remove that lirr/1556  under the cab window and replace it with the Blue Long Island  “M” decal I have from island model works.

A high priority seasonal load arrived on Team Track # 2 this week. The crew wasted no time getting the precious cargo on the trucks and over to the tree yard.

The crew on # 99 (MTH 0-4-0 Tank) were happy to assist with the offload. # 99 is overdue to go into the paint shop to get her road name lettering applied. The shop foreman's list keeps getting longer and longer......

Another annual tradition is to pull out the old big hook to assist with the heavy lifting as well.

Time to get the tree and decorations set up. December has bestowed a sunny and mild weekend upon us LawnGuylanders!

I used Island MW decals on my track car. They are nice folks to deal with.

I worked at Pathmak when I was in High School Mel. I have to look for that car. I also have fond memories of taking a field trip to the A&P warehouses in Garden City when I was in elementary school. The LIRR used to deliver goods to them via the Central Extension line off the Hempstead Branch. I seem to recall seeing RS-3's like Strap's as power.

Thanks Bob. Hold back the tears and don’t give up just yet. Last year, my LIRR RS1 in tichey paint scheme arrived 2 days before Christmas.  There is still hope for that beautiful one you’ve ordered arriving in time!  Really nice Christmas tree delivery scenes above!

Fingers crossed..... I just received a really nice gift certificate to Trainland from one of our vendors. I'm planning to put it to good use soon!

Postwar 623 and 624.  I have been on the lookout for a 6250 Seaboard of postwar vintage.  I have not found a nice one. There are plenty on the bay with issues.

Wow everyone what great pictures today.  jhz neat Christmas switcher, our tree went up last night and its too small for a train but at least it puts the household in a seasonal mood.  Lee- welcome back glad you are back with us. 

Here is a short video of the PRR  "Beep" switcher pulling a short freight.  The box cars are a mix of Lionel and MPC  but the lighted caboose is vintage postwar Lionel.

I had to take this beautiful MTH Southern SD35 hi-hood out of the box and do some switching.

You guys are kind.  Someone must have noticed I described my Docksider as a 0-4-0T instead of 0-6-0T!

You are forgiven my son.....

Your penance is to run trains for one hour or more.

Fixing MTH's mistake in not making a Jersey Central VO-1000 ( they had 5 of them )

Bought a unit without pilots ( the front steps are fragile and break easily ) from MTH's Cabin Fever Auctions

and machined some SW-8 pilots to replace them, and painted it Tru Color Paint TCP-233 CNJ Deep Sea Green

Makes it look a bit more like the later Baldwin S-12 switcher

Edit:  After the photos were posted I realized something was missing and added the front road number board ( brass stock epoxied in place, back of cab number would need disassembly to do, not worth the effort. )

Lee, thanks for the compliment on the flat with tractors.  Here’s a better photo.  The flat is MTH and the tractors were purchased from Die Cast Direct.

Jet : What a great job on the CNJ switcher. I grew up (late 40's early 50's) right near Hoboken and the CNJ was the key railroad to commute to NY.  Super work jet!
