It's #SwitcherSaturday time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.), so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

If you missed last week's SWSAT, no worries - you can see what you missed by clicking here:

This week.....

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the yard, not a switcher stirring, not even a plymouth... (wait, that doesn't rhyme??? AGAIN!!!!)

OK, this week we have my annual "Murnane Girls and the Trains" video, my kids are the two on the left, the kid on the right is my niece who is visiting from Long Island.  Note the Angela Trotta Thomas Lionel 0-4-0 is having fun pulling 12 (or so) Christmas cars around, not bad for a little switcher.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys Christmas. I'll probably follow up in a bit with additional pictures.

Ho Ho Ho...Rich Murnane

p.s. Miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

Yay! SWSat is on!

Great pics and vids so far guys. Your kids look so happy Rich.

Trumptrain has a great article on his layout  in the newest OGR run. Congratulations the layout looks great and I love that you got so many switchers in the there. The B&O C16 makes an appearance as does a great Maryland triple head short line switcher lineup Canton, Balt and Annapolis and P&BR.

Here is my youngest running her Favorite train a K-line Polar Bear handcar.image

We have just a small O-27 loop of snowy white tie track for the tree. We run the Pine Needle Dodger passenger train and a Beep led switch turn and a LOT of work extras in yellow paint. They stop for orders at the old tinplate Bing signal tower

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays everyone...

with apologies to Clement Moore...

'Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house,

Rich Murnane was stirring like a mouse;

Switcher Saturday had started up with steel or nickel plated wheels on the rails...

his video and bloopers are better than holiday sales.

Down the chimney came Rich with a bound,

but he got stuck in the chimney because he was slightly too round (Sorry Rich, I needed to ryhme)...

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were all tarnished with O gauge ashes and soot;

He sprang to his sleigh, after blowing his train's whistle,
And away they all flew like a Lionel military train carrying a missile.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight—
“Happy Christmas & Chanukah to all, and to all a good night!”

----------------------------------------------------

My contribution is my #231 prewar switcher...hope everyone has a great holiday and we all get enough coal in our stockings for our steam switchers!

Tom

Hi All- not a joyous SWSAT here... my Lionel post-war ATSF 218 Alco died a slow and painful death yesterday. Looks like 47 years is the life expectancy for the motors in these things. I will carry on though and start the search for a new motor. Here's a video of her running on the old carpet express line.

Ran the trains as a  memorial to the old girl though.  Especially my 0-6-0 Docksider and my NW-2's

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, and Happy New Year to all.

Good Long Island theme this week Rich. Your niece, and Andy's RS-3 heading to Mineola. Cute video, we could barely get the kids to sit still for Christmas pictures each year!

Thanks Rich for posting the videos of your girls with the Christmas trains!!  Great videos capturing the spirit of toy trains and family at Christmastime, which is when many of us got hooked on trains!

Andy - thanks so much for the shout out and kind words regarding the latest issue OGR article on my layout, The Free State Junction Railway.  I am honored that a major model train publication would include a 9 page spread on my layout.  When I was Rich's girls age ( back in the 2007 video ) I never thought that my layout would be included in a major model train publication.  WOW!!  A dream come true and a wonderful Christmas present!!!  It was 60 years ago tomorrow that I got hooked on trains and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

COACH JOE - Thanks for the welcome. My MTH 0-8-0 steam switcher was bought more than 15 years ago. No weathering has been applied. I wouldn't dare...

MNCW - Thanks, and appreciate your liking the layout. I have lots of switcher locos and plan to contribute weekly.

Thanks also to STEAMER. I think it's interesting that he posted a picture of the full scale NYC 0-8-0 #7749 steam switcher and I posted pictures of the same type of 1:48 scale model. I believe they both are examples of the USRA standardized locomotive design with a high-mounted headlight on each.

Hi Fellas. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.

in observance of our first holiday season without Dad (this truly was his favorite time of year), here's another look at his prewar B6sb which has reclaimed its rightful spot on display in his old train room. You can see a few of the other Callahan family classics as well.

My best to everyone,

Bob
