It's Switcher Saturday Time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.), so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

If you missed last week's SWSAT, you should go take a look, there was some great stuff posted!
https://ogrforum.com/...rday-2019-january-19

This week at the RiCHY (Richmond, Chesapeake, Hudson Yard) we have B&O #317 pulling a nice little B&O round roof boxcar.

I really do love this this switcher the family got for me for Christmas, I think I've already run it a million scale miles.

The RailKing boxcar was picked up last week at the Richmond VA Greenberg show.  I like the look so much that I'll probably have to search out a couple more similar cars, and of course a legendary Lionel B&O wagon top caboose to match.

Enjoy your weekend and when you get a chance - please post some switcher stuff here!

You know the rules:

1. if it's related to switchers (model switchers, prototypes, critters, switching yards, switching layouts) - we want to see it! Videos, Pics, Stories (true or fictional), poems, whatever!

2. if you miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

3. keep it friendly - we want this to be fun.
(we haven't had any problems with grumpy trolls, I'd like to keep it that way)

All the best...Rich Murnane

Yay! SWSat is in the “ON “ position!

Neat stuff so far guys.

I have jumped in the Way Back machine and found some old pics of some switching action on my former walk-in closet layout.

Here is a really cool old EMC switcher that worked its life on the north shore of Staten Island. There was an Australian model making company that made a kit of this in O scale briefly that is very hard to find. The prototype is now in the collection at Alliare State Park in NJ.

Have a great weekend guys. I will be running around helping my kids get to their various events this busy weekend.

Hey @Silver Lake - great pictures, that transit switcher makes me think of the "real world" transit switchers you've posted over the years here.  And I still love that Williams 44T PRR, it's on my wish list for sure.

Peter @Putnam Division - great pictures and video, your club modules look incredible, I really have to come down and see you guys one of these days, I'm sorry I haven't so far.

Happy Switcher Saturday everyone.

If you are in the New York Metropolitan region tomorrow, there is the Toy & Train Show at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, NY. Come by and say "HI" or "I Love Switchers" or whatever. If you buy my book and mention Switcher Saturday, you get a bonus gift (free). Also, I will also have company, my friend and sometimes Switcher Saturday poster "Fireman" Joe Krasko will be with me and selling some items, too.

Since Rich started us off with the B&O, i thought I would post pictures of my 2 B&O Docksides. Thanks for starting us up Rich.

This is my Right-Of-Way version:

Finally, if Andy Warhol liked Docksides, he might have done something like this:

Hello all. I’m not sure if the adventures of a newbie railroader is what you want to read about or not. If not, please tell me. My youngest son has taken his first train over the Sierra-Nevada as a conductor. He had made this trip a couple of times as a Union Pacific trainee. Marty lucked out as he had a very experienced engineer and a fireman. The fireman was a former conductor and now a locomotive engineer trainee. These long-time UP employees will share knowledge if they know a tyro is serious about the job. Lots of snow over the Donner Pass. This 8000-foot long freight train dodged a bullet--three lead locomotives and three helpers in the middle and one of the helper engines stopped producing power on the 2 percent grade. The train had slowed to four miles per hour when they reached the crest. Happy railroading, Jim

Aha!  It's Saturday, and it must be "dash day" for that D&H local freight crew.  Apparently the Engineer thinks he can fool an old Road Foreman of Engines with the paper clip trick.  Sometimes, an Engineer would put a binder clip onto the stylus piston in an old Barco or Chicago Pneumatic mechanical speed recorder and prevent it from showing a speed higher than allowed.

I'll call the roundhouse right now and have that guy's tape pulled and sent to my office.    I might send you a demerit waiver for him to sign.  Oh, "him" is you?  Sorry, Peter, I didn't realize that, well, we'll just let it go this time old pal.

Whew!!  Great photos and videos everyone!

Here's mine for this fine SWSat!  On this past week's Team Track Tuesday thread I posted photos of a car load of show horses ( circa 1950 ) being unloaded, under floodlights, onto a horse van  during the evening hours.   Today on SWsat the horses are now boarding the horse car for their journey back home.  ( The annual Patsburg Horse Show took place this week at the Mr. Ed Equestrian Center )  The switch crew, with their trusty WM BL2,  got to the team track early so they could watch the 1948 Triple Crown winner, Citation board the car along with other Kentucky Derby winners from 1949 & 50.

Elsewhere, a B&O SW9 switch crew makes use of their time, created by a red signal, to check over their switch list before heading into the tunnel to do switching at a small yard located on the other side of the mountain.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!IMG_8879IMG_8904IMG_8894IMG_8901IMG_8912IMG_8903IMG_8909IMG_8917IMG_8918

Happy SWSat!

Great stuff and always. Amazing how many different switchers and photos get posted each week.

This week a pair of PRR switchers are working a couple of local runs. The MP-15 is moving a few cars and H10-44 is on the Yuengling excursion run to the local brewery.

Once the excursion train passes D&H RS-3 is waiting to pass.

Bob

Greetings from sunny SoCal everyone!  Being three hours behind your easterners, I jump on the switcher train a bit later than most of you.

Sending along a pic of my brand new LC+ Nickel Plate NW-2 which just rumbled out here this week.

While I focus on western railroads, I was born and raised in Cleveland where the old NKP was our hometown carrier, so I couldn’t resist picking up this beauty.

She AD8800CC-F119-4274-87D5-CDF69A72CF7Fruns great, btw.  No problems right out of the box.

Enjoy your weekend.

Next, empty tank cars are pulled from Seneca Foods. The trackmobile lends a hand which saves a run around move when dropping the cars in the yard:

On the west end of town, General Mills needs a couple cars shifted around:

Almost done, the crew waits for the blue flag to be cleared while the transload crew closes up a hopper too be picked up:
