It's Switcher Saturday!!!!

Love switchers, shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters? Join the fun and lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

In cased you missed it, here is the link to last week's SWSAT, the Saturday crew last week posted some great stuff!

Today's picture from me is an oldie-but-goodie, a snapshot of my small tabletop layout with NYC #1665 running on it.

I hope everyone here in the US had a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July, enjoy your weekend and when you get a chance - please post some switcher stuff here!

You know the rules:

1. if it's related to switchers (model switchers, prototypes, critters, switching yards, switching layouts) - we want to see it! Videos, Pics, Stories (true or fictional), poems, whatever!

2. if you miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

3. keep it friendly - we want this to be fun. (we haven't had any problems with grumpy trolls, I'd like to keep it that way)

All the best...Rich Murnane

Mel, that's a nice little addition.

Johan, good work on the Cape Shark station and the weathering on the trains.  Just the right amount of dirt and grime on each piece.

Joe. Thank you. I just love that my S.B.R. ALCO HH660 "Anchor" switcher, just a right size engine to our layout. S.B.R. also just order a couple FAIRBANKS MORSE LOCOMOTIVES.

Johan.

Been looking a while for this one. Atlas CNJ 0-6-0 with rd. No 107. In my quest to have a Rutland RR operating scheme. I was in need of a few switchers. The Atlas is a close enough in my world to do the job. Having a correct  rd. No. makes the job easier. The cab and tender sides will need new lettering and nos.. The lights and rear of the tender can stay intact. The Rutland purchased this switcher in 1946. From the Clarendon and Pittsford. This one looks more like what’s offered as far as 3 rail models.

0-8-0  #109 will now have some help with switching moves.

Oh it’s late. SWSat is on still.

Long solo bike ride on old Railroad grade today. It is in early stages of becoming a rail trail 60 years after the rails were pulled. Not much switching going on I was the only human out there. 32 miles on a 2nd hand dept store bike with my taped on tools.

Grasse River Railroad. Over the Massawepie Mire. With moose tracks to go with the train tracks and my bike tracks.

Here is my Grasse River 1/1 scale model caboose too. It is a bit too much to pull. Mine is one number higher than the 4 the GRR had. Also some fish eye inside shots. The lamps were made by a repro place in So Cal. They do a great job and are very reasonably priced.

And some old photos of the some of the equipment. The Cyanotype is Adirondacks and St. Lawrence RR 4-6-0 #15 heading a short logging train of two flats with a Barnhart loader and a caboose. #15 was built in 1892 it became NYC #992 in 1905 when the A&StL was absorbed. Later it was renumbered NYC #2025.

One last funny one is this tunnel that let workers take loads directly into the office basement from the freight platform on the tracks.

Mel. The only real danger or concerns I had in was the piece of work bike I was riding and the size of my water bottle. I try to limit my ride to consuming a good bit under half of my water before I turn back.

(The Western Adirondacks is really almost empty of tourists. Shh don’t tell anyone.)

Keeping good direction, telling someone where you are going, watching for tree snags and  listening for quiet seem the best things.

I did almost get a face full of “Endangered  Spruce Grouse” so that was exciting. They were gone before I could get a picture.

So there is the real Silver Lake of my forum handle. Here are some Grasse River passenger service “Jumping Goose” pics. A 1926 White Bus set for rail service. The top pic is meeting the NYC Adirondack Division train at Childwold Station.B0E67BB6-35B9-4383-95B0-4E86A4B1A21D64AC254C-9D89-4E7C-BB7A-81728FC1D794

The Tupper Lake History Museum is in a new space the rebuilt Tupper Lake Jct Station. One of the two steam era water spouts was there. They also have a wonderful scale model of the whole Lumber town of Conifer with the mill and every thing. The scale was smaller than Z. A very nice model that doesn’t photograph well because of the plexi top. The elaborate elevated dock railway for the drying stack yard is clearly shown.

This is a picture of the Emporium Warehouse/ store  and station on Cranberry Lake. A lot of the metal roof is missing and it will not be long before it is gone. The tracks extended here on a boom over the water to collect logs from logging operations on this big lake so they could be brought to the mill. Also the Jumping Goose had a gas pump here that also fueled cars on NY state Rt3. In more recent years it was the Emporium Marina but that has been closed for years.E58698BA-AACC-4817-8B3F-130C58B683A81B0017BA-3498-4278-A852-B8B6E6F61E1B

Also here is the only actual rail I saw holding up a vehicle gate.

I appreciate your concern Mel. I am

fine.

Andy/Silverlake,

Very nice, but if I can suggest two additions. I think you may need to weld on a "Moosecatcher" (not a Cowcatcher") and you should carry a net in case you have a Bigfoot/Sasquatch sighting.  Enjoy.
