WELCOME TO SWITCHER SATURDAY!!!

I'm at the throttle this morning, pinch hitting for JHZ563 this weekend ...  so if you are a fan of those little locomotives that do BIG things you are in the right place.

Feel free to post photos, within the guidelines of the OGR Forum TOS, of toy, model, and/or real life size switch engines.   Remember to post only photos that are yours or in  public domain.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!  I'm looking forward to seeing what you all post!

I'll start off with a photo of a B&O SW9 and it's brakemen on the ground ready to throw a switch.  Next is a video of one of my Baltimore and Annapolis SW9 locos taking a grade crossing.  IMG_0488

Thanks, Patrick, for getting us rolling!

Your Yardmaster is still enjoying railfanning in ME.  The ME narrow gauge railroads are among his favorites, so he paid a visit to the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington RR (www.wwfry.org) in Alna ME.

W,W&F 0-4-0T no. 4 is shown stopping for orders at the yard office.  She’ll head up the mixed train to Waterville.  The train is short today, so one of the road’s “big” 2-4-4T engines isn’t needed for the run.

Thanks Patrick for moving us out this morning.  For my part today, I am moving over into the 1:1 scale, mostly because its so connected to my layout railroad.  I created the layout railroad, which I named the Leonardtown and Savannah for places we have lived.  In fiction, my RR exists to move freight and passengers from the Savannah wharf area into town and then on up the line to connect with a Class 1 (Southern in my imagination).  So imagine my surprise when last summer while stuck in traffic, I discovered that there is a REAL RR which does exactly that although the interchange is with CSX.  So here are some pictures of the "Savannah and Old Fort" RR.  The "old fort" by the way refers to Ft. Jackson a War of Independence era fort on the Savannah River.

The Savannah and Old Fort is a Watco property, encompassing 6.5 miles of track and having 4 employees.  It began in 2019 and primarily moves sulfuric acid, sulfur, gypsum, pulpboard, wood pellets and petroleum. It moves cars from the Savannah wharf area to an interchange point at Southover (Ga) yd where it interchanges with CSX.  By the way for you railfans, the RR crosses "Marine Terminal Road" a somewhat rural road at grade level with no restrictions on approaching the track so pictures are easy.

So here is the Savannah and Old Fort , Watco short line in action.  Note...I admit to a lack of ability to distinguish one modern diesel from another so I won't even attempt at labeling this locomotive.  If anyone out there can do that, please put it in the post as I would like to know.  None of their web site literature discusses equipment.

S&OF RR 1

As you can see, these locomotives are fairly clean, this may be fresh paint jobs as these pictures are only about 2 years into the establishment of the line by Watco.

Note - just to make the monitors happy, these pictures are mine taken personally.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Best Wishes

Don

John,

Hopefully our trip to Maine will take place next summer. We have a trip planning meeting in two weeks and then we may book flights as well. Once I have more detailed information, we could try to arrange a meeting to which, of course, anyone interested is welcome.

Hi fellow SWSat'ers,

Another week and another reminder that I am getting old.  I took several images of my 3rd Rail PRR H6b for SWSat but posted them on Weekend Photo Fun.  I guess the Photo Fun images I took will wait until next week.

Anyway, the H6 ran well when I got it back from its ERR upgrade from Alex_M, but after sitting in the box for a couple of years it now makes a horrible grinding noise when trying to move.  Back to Alex.  These are some other images I took before boxing it up.

Also, here is a comparison of the little H6 next to a Weaver H10.
