Happy SWSat!

Looks like John is otherwise detained this morning. SWSat is our weekly confab of all the goings on in the world of the engines large and small, that toil in the yards and on the branch lines of the worlds railroads.

Post what you've got to share, just make sure it conforms to the TOS.

I mentioned my new purchase last week, a B&A RS-3 that I bought from Trainz. They shipped it out Monday and I received it Wednesday. I unpacked it for a couple of photos, but I'm waiting for some new BCR's to arrive before I run it so I'll share more of it in action on next week's SWSat. The body is in great shape and the wheels and rollers have very little wear.

Have a great weekend!

Bob

RSJB18,

Thanks for starting SWSAT. Better late than never. I hope JHZ563 is OK and joins us later.

My locomotive for today’s SWSAT is an Atlas O Master model of New Haven Railroad ALCO RS-1 #0668 (item 6888-2). It was delivered in March 2004 at an MSRP of $429.95 with TMCC. It has the smooth operation and high level of detail typical of Atlas O Master models and runs on O-36 curves.

ALCO produced RS-1s between 1941 and 1960. They were powered by a 1,000 horsepower 539T diesel motor, weighed 240,000 pounds and had a top speed of 60 mph. New Haven #0668 (Class DERS-1b) was delivered in 1948. Five New Haven RS-1s lasted into the Penn Central era that began in 1969.

The locomotive is running at 24 scale-miles-per-hour in the first video. It is pulling three 60-foot New Haven passenger cars made by Atlas O Trainman.

Happy switcher Sat! Thanks for filling in, Bob and that is a nice engine. Remember to place tape on the cab above and below the wire railings when you remove the RS3 shell to install the bcr or you will run the risk of scraping the paint. While it’s open, don’t forget to put a few figures in the cab space.

Thanks for the reminder. I should have the BCR's Monday so if I finally get my F3 off the bench this will be next.
Nice Boxcab. I have a K-line PRR waiting for a ERR upgrade.

Bob, thank you for taking the reins today.  I have that RS3; it’s equipped with a BCR and runs great.

Today your Yardmaster is featuring a Maine railroading scene in honor of Yohan’s visit to the USA.  I believe he’s visiting the Wiscasset, Waterville  and Farmington RR today. Wish I could be there!

MEC F3 no. 671 is holding on a red while GP7 no. 562 passes with the daily freight from Augusta to Waterville.  The F3 is a postwar Lionel model; I put it together with a custom painted shell purchased at a NETCA show and a chassis from my postwar repairman.

A video question: static objects in my videos are in sharp focus while moving objects are blurred.  Is this due to a limitation of my iPad camera or is there a setting to adjust?  I couldn’t find a setting.

John

Good morning fellow switcher fans!!  Thank Bob for jumping in the engineers seat and notching out the throttle to get us rolling this morning!  I hope everything is okay with JHZ563 and am hopeful that he will be joining us down the line later today.   I really like your new RS3!! Congrats!  That particular livery is my favorite B&M livery.

Wonderful photos, videos and info everyone!!  MELGAR we can always count on you for great info!!  I love the RS 1 locomotive btw!!  It's one of my favorite diesel locomotives of all time

Today I have some pics of my Ma & Pa SW1 in various locations and times of day on the Free State Junction Railway.  I'm off to a music conference at SUNY Fredonia but had to post these photos ( from the archives ) before leaving.  Have a wonderful and safe weekend everyone!!

Number 70 rounds the bend at Todd's Junction.  Engineer  Puffy Crowley eases number 70 through a trurnout. 5E40A8C4-D780-4323-9E51-57951C6D22AF_1_201_a

The early morning light has not quite scattered through the entirety of Patsburg.  Here, number 70 trundles through a shadowed part of town which is soon to be filled with sunlight.  Puffy blows the thunderous horn which echos off the buildings that are impeding  the sun's light.  Each morning, number 70's horn serves  as a  fanfare that precedes the sun's light.  IMG_3077

Well hello SwSat fans, wife and I are on vacation at the beach so I am separated by 1125 miles from the layout and collection.  So it will have to be pictures from my archives for the next 2 weeks.

Here is one of my favorite engines, its a KLINE Alco S-2 with twin motors.  It easily goes over my 0-27 switches and curves and with 2 motors pulls any train I want.

Alco S-2 Switcher 1

Next up the relatively common Marx 400 in an 0-4-0 configuration with the "Allstate" tender from Sears.

Allstate tank train - engine & tender

Another good runner especially in tight areas, the RMT "BEEP" in PRR colors.

Beep PRR with supplies

@StrapHanger showed his box cab and a really nice one at that.  On the other end of the detail scale is Lionel's little 520 boxcab from 1956-57.

Finally a Marx #112 LV GE 70-ton from 1974-75

Best wishes to all, hope you are having a great weekend.  Thanks Bob for getting us started this morning.  Hope jhz is OK.

Don

love that 520, Don. Mine is sitting on the shelf awaiting an engine cleaning and relube job before I put her back in service.  Enjoy the beach vacation. If you’re down here in Florida, it’s been absolutely fabulous.

@Strap Hanger - thanks for the compliment. Hope you get your 520 running but that LIRR one is cool.  Not in Fla this vacation only got as far as Georgia

Don

Enjoy your vacation Don.

For the boxcab fans.....

Wow, @RSJB18, Bob, thanks for starting this Switcher Saturday theme early this morning, it’s always fun to review the many switch engines and layouts and videos, all really nice. I’m late to the party because of attending the 2022 LCCA National Convention in Nashville, over 550 from all over the country attended and it’s been a lot of fun. The LCCA Convention next year 2023 will be in Concord NC., where Lionel headquarters are and there will be tours thru the factory, and many other activities. If your not in the LCCA, it’s a great organization, it’s time to hop on the LCCA train. Bob,

Thanks for taking on the Yard Master duties for the week!

It's my pleasure gents. This was the first weekly thread I got hooked on when I joined the Forum. I can probably count on one hand the number of weeks I've missed in 6+ years.
