Switcher Saturday-Mark II, 9-21-19

I own only modern trains except for this Lionel 1615 that I bought about a year ago because I wanted a genuine Lionel piece from the 1950s that was “Made in USA.” I keep the 1615 on a stub track at the front of my 10’-by-5’ layout and recently picked it up and examined it from every direction. The manufacturing quality impressed me the most – the castings, paint, wheels and rods. Some light file marks are evident at the parting line on top of the boiler and cab roof – undoubtedly done by hand by a worker in New Jersey. And, after at least 62 years, no zinc pest that I could see. Although modern technology has far surpassed this little locomotive, it certainly is a good example of why Lionel trains were so widely respected in the early postwar years when I had them as a youngster.

These little K-line Plymouths pack great detail and good pulling power in a tiny package.

Mel that is a wonderful purchase and you are rightly proud of it.

Alas, since my O switchers are resting comfortably in their boxes, I bring you this week's 1/1 scale switcher.  # PSCC 1210 works at a portion of the Letterkenny Army Depot / Chambersburg, PA that has been privatised for commercial usage.  These bases often feature a maze of trackage - that is interesting in it's own.  The crew on 1210 was drilling some cars this past Tuesday morning and were kind enough to yield the right-of-way to me in the big truck.

That is a MTH switcher made exclusivly for Pittsburgh Brewery along with these freight cars.

Believe it or not, this used to be a power mainstay at the Strasburg.  Last run in 1967. Seen better days. 0-4-0 camelback #1185

I wish she could get some attention.

Yes. Very odd. It’s easy to find us over here. What gives? Are they mad?

I have been a sporadic poster in the SWSAT thread for a few years now.

Going forward, what has put the hurt on me is the new policy that OGR has been forced to embrace. (I fully understand that. It is what it is.)

Simply put, my historic prototype switcher photos have been gathered over the years/decades on various internet RR photo sites and I haven't a clue who shot them and thus holds copyright on them. That means I have very little personal photos to share now.

Further, I split my available retirement time among my many interests, and sometimes my appreciation for switch engines takes a backseat to other interests.

To make sure all understand: My much reduced involvement with SWSAT certainly has ZERO reflection in regards to the timing involved in Rich's passing of the torch.

I highly suspect I'm not the only one hamstrung with the new photo policy.

I totally understand.  I have had to dig deep into my phone to keep coming up with pictures to share.  There are lots of things I would like to post on this thread that I saw online but have no idea who did it first or how to obtain permission for reposting.  I am fortunate to live in central PA so I am usually not too far from some thing on rails.  

I appreciate everyone’s call continued participation.  Sorry the weekly intro has gotten kinda wordy, but at least that’s something I can mostly copy and paste!

B&OCT 954 takes to newly laid No. 2 Track at Central Avenue Crossover during construction of the Congress Street Expressway.  No. 1 Track should be in place and in service by close of business, today.  CTA Garfield Park trains are still running on trackage temporarily relocated to permit Expressway construction but will soon rejoin their old neighbor.
