This is a fantasy trip that follows the itinerary of the famous three stage California Zephyr that operated between Chicago and the west coast from March 20, 1949 to March 22, 1970. The actual journey covered 2,525 miles in 51 hours, and included two nights of widely differing sleep options en route.
Our fictional haul features the new intricately detailed Atlas passenger cars that were delivered from 2010 to 2015, one of the most obsessed over sets ever. Travel is from east to west originating in Chicago. Motive power interchanges occur at Denver and Salt Lake City. Look for several special motive appearances in Emeryville.
