I'd previously posted a video of the LC+ Hudson and Pacific running on adjacent tracks at the same throttle setting.  Not surprisingly, they ran at exactly the same speed: they are identical inside- same drivers, same motor, same gears, same electronics, etc.  The Hudson vs. Pacific difference in the projectu is entirely in the body and trucks bolted on to the chassis.  Put them on the same loop, set them at the same speed, and the don't meet - at least in well over an hour of running.

But what about the LC+ Mikado vs. the Hudson/Pacific?  The Mikado has different size drivers, so while it is related, it is not a twin, and it occured to me to test it to see how close to identical speed the two run.

The video below bounces around as I try to hold the camera, operate two remotes, and turn on the power to both at precisely the same time, but once they start, they keep what appears to be exact pace with one another.  In fact, over a much longer time, it is clear the Hudson gains about one to five inches a minute on the Mikado, depending on the throttle setting - but that is good enough that on my layout I can run three trains - Hudson, Pacific, and Mikado, on my main loop (130 feet around), with about 30 feet between trains and never do they meet in an hour.

Here is a video of my test.  As I said it is a bit rough, as I juggle so much at the first.   They are each running on the same throttle setting of their remotes.

Here are three LC+ locos, Hudson, Pacific, and Mikado, pulling trains, all on my #1 mainline, not spaced quite evenly around the loop but it doesn't matter, they never met within slightly over an hour of just running.   (Note, all three have been bashed so they look considerably different than right out of the box).

Questions

How many cars will the Mikado pull ?

How many cars will the pacific pull?

How many cars will the Hudson pull?

Thanks in Advance !

I think they would all pull about the same.  I have pulled over 25 scale reefers even uphill on a 2.5% - 3% grade -- I tested either the Hudson or Pacific, I can't remember which.  I'm sure the Mikado would do as well.  These steamers are heavy, have heavy diecast tender, have lots of traction, and as near as I can tell, plenty of power.

Always interesting to see these type of comparisons. We had a LC+ Hudson pulling eight Polar Express cars up a grade that averaged about 7% at 1/3 throttle on O36 Fastrack, during the Holidays. I have no doubt if the we used wider curves and had better couplers it's capable of pulling at least 15 and maybe 20 cars up that grade. The LC Polar Express from the rtr set was pulling 13 cars at 3/4 throttle around the same track but at that point the couplers started failing.
