Would anyone have a suggestion for a replacement tether for one of Williams scale Hudsons from the early 00s?  The original was pretty chincy to start with, and after replacing it a couple of times, I see that Bachmann doesn't even carry the part anymore.  It's a beautiful locomotive, but man, has it ever been a maintenance nightmare!

The build quality is poor on these harnesses. I had to repair mine several years ago. I bought the pins from Digi-key. I don't remember the part number. They sell the connectors and pins. You'll have to do some research on their site to find the correct pins. There is a crimper made for the pins, but I couldn't justify the cost for a few pins. I used needle nose pliers and I think I soldered them also. A very fine tipped precision screwdriver will release them from the connector. I also cut most of the heat shrink off of the harness because it was too stiff and caused my tender to derail constantly. It also places all of the bending stress on the harness at the back of the connector which causes the wires to break off of the back of the pins. A very short piece of heat shrink on the back of the harness to act as a strain relief would probably help, though I don't think I got around to doing that on mine. I haven't run it in a few years, but it ran great every time I ran it after the repair.
