Well, first of all, Happy Thanksgiving to all.
I was noodling through the archives and thought I'd post a couple of pictures.
The Kansas Grain Belt got caught in a motive power shortage during its transition from steam to diesel. To the benefit of railfans, they made up this shortcoming by leasing available power from near and far.
One such example came from afar: a Seattle Tacoma & Portland Pacific. An odd choice for a railroad with minimal passenger service, but you "takes whats youse can gets..."
I caught the 2352 at the Iola coaling tower. Of course, Stan and Kyle are still talking, oblivious to the latest foreigner...
She's in remarkable shape as far as "surplus" locomotives go:
The water plug was out of service waiting on a replacement valve, so the 2352 had to go belly up to the water tower on the other service track:
We can only hope the delay to full dieselization will continue unabated.
