OK, what did I overlook? I didn't see ANYTHING that stated that 765 was "coming to Chicago this summer". The views in the video are from 2016.
Not Chicago, but somewhere close by...
Rumor has it's Peoria.

Ok..close by then.

As is the case with most rumors, this one is wrong.
Peoria, IL -- my home town! If true, I'll be there for a steam excursion run. Boarding at the former Rock Island depot at the Illinois River riverfront location, I presume.

Rich, will 765 pass through Chicago to get where it's going?
A trip back down the NS Cleveland Line would be cool. Because this time I would go to Rootstown Ohio or Hudson Ohio. Last time 765 took the CL, I missed her. Also if you made a trip from Cleveland to Buffalo along the Ex. NKP line, now that would be awesome there. Coming through Mentor & Madison, would be really cool. Anyway, I probably know that won't happen, but I always look forward to the CVSR trips in Sept.

LaSalle Street Station's not in Chicago?
That's news to the commuters that ride the Rock Island District...

Will the "765" still be able to run the speeds required on the main line, w/o Rich at the throttle......????.......He is gonna be missed, and that is a .......Fact!

Joliet ain't in Chicago...

765 will run at 70 mph on these trips. She is easily capable of that. Here's proof...
As for who will be at the throttle, we have several well-qualified young guys who can handle her just fine. One of them, Zach Hall, is at the throttle in this video clip.

Sorta has to go to Chicago before (and after) she goes to Joliet... seeing that's where the trips start and ends.

So it is coming to Chicago....huh...wudda ya know.
Its coming to JOLIET!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is the 765 going to come somewhere near Philadelphia in 2017?
Maxrailroad posted:Is the 765 going to come somewhere near Philadelphia in 2017?
Probably not, due to the VERY long/expensive deadhead move, and the overhead electric wires.

No.

The point was/is that it will be in Chicago. Everyone remain calm....
Darn. I was hoping to see my favorite steamer somewhere local this year. Maybe Ill go to Indiana in August, if I can find the time.
In the Houston area, the word "Houston" is an adjective which covers more than the city limits. Maybe it is the same in the Chicago area? Is that how the word "Chicagoland" is used?
The Joliet Rocket is going to be an awesome fan trip.My dad took me to the Joliet train station to watch the trains go by when I was a kid in the early 1970s.I remember the signals were still semaphores and lots of 90 degree crossings.I think the last steam engine through Joliet was the Santa Fe 3751,probably over 25 years ago.
Max, you might want to try the RBMN 425 and possibly the 2102 later this year. They are building a new station north of Reading on their main line for excursion boarding but all they have so far are RDC trips to Jim Thorpe. 765 stopped in Jim Thorpe during the runs from near Bethlehem in August, 2015. RBMN is really the only long distance steam operation in PA right now with no NS runs this year except in NC and VA with 611 and Steamtown still not running any mainline steam toward Moscow and beyond, 765 did that in 2015. If you're up for a drive, the C&O 1309 is running at the WMSR this July.

Thanks. We were wondering!
Had hoped to ride or see it,
then a friend reminded me last night the 18th is Fathers Day so we are out.
Will it be taking the route of The Rock Island?

Most likely the Chicago Line to get to Joliet via LaSalle Street Station.
I wonder if the A-tank will be ready in time or if it's used on the actual trip itself? I also wonder what passenger cars will be used?
The ticket prices are not bad in price. However, it is coming nowhere near Houston!

Buy a ticket and you can see for yourself, up close and in person.

Yes, Joliet is considered part of "Chicagoland", which is generally comprised of the city of Chicago, Cook County, and the counties adjacent to Cook County (including Will County, of which Joliet is the county seat.) It also includes some counties further out in IL, IN and WI.
Rumor has it that 765 will lead into Chicago, but a Metra diesel will pull the train back to Joliet. Will Metra bi-level cars be used?
Less a rumor and more a fact. 765 will lead northbound, diesel pulls southbound. No Metra passenger equipment will be used.

Dan do you mind if I share this pic on my facebook page? I think the MW 261 came through Joliet after the Santa Fe but I have trouble finding pictures.
I asked on the Fort Wayne Historical Society Facebook page if the 765 will go south of the diamonds at all so some good pictures can be taken with the old Joliet Union Station. No response yet and im not sure I will get one. I would assume this wouldnt happen unless they set it up. The new station is just north of the diamonds and with the passenger cars attached the engine will be too far from the old station to get a good shot.
I don't think I've as of yet spied your comment, but we try to reply to everyone. We plan to position the train there between runs to get out of the way of the regular commuter trains. As the crossover is controlled by the other railroad, we're going to have to play it by ear.

Awesome thanks for the reply. I believe Only 2 csx freight trains pass south of the diamonds a day now and that takes place late at night so it would be easily doable. That would be awesome if they parked her south of the diamonds so some classic photos could be taken matching where the ROCK picked up passengers.
The video in Rich Melvin's post has a full-length Illinois Central vista dome. I thought no such beast existed. Is the car historically accurate, a paint job because we can do what we want its our car, or do I need new glasses?
