All:

I'm talking about the 2014 Pittsburgh Model Railroad Jamboree organized and held by the Keystone Division of the NMRA's Mid-Continent Region on April 26th.

This is an entire day's worth of clinics, plus continental breakfast, plus buffet lunch for $32 non-NMRA member before April 12th.  And the clinics are excellent and applicable to most scales.  I should know, I've been attending since 2007.  You'll come away with some fresh ideas and some new friends.

It's hard to find a decent 3-rail car for $32.  And this event is waaaay better than that.

Details at:  http://www.keystonedivision.or..._files/jamb2013.html

Yes, this year the Jamboree falls on the last day of the York Meet, but I'm going to both.  It's that good.

                           WHAT'S A PERSON TO SAY?

Another stinkn' advertisement. As is we don't get enough from a choice few, "Forum Sponsors". Soon the forum will be like your favourite magazine subscription, 50% advertisments & 50% of the reading material you pay for. It does seem that your intentions are heart felt. I'd better shut up before the powers that be........

George,

I agree that I was a little harsh...for which I do apologize. I too like to be kept up to date as to what's going on locally. What I do not like is the path the forum has taken. It seems as if it has taken a downward spiral.

Perhaps my posting belongs in the Announcements Section, perhaps not.  I wanted it to be seen by a large number of folks so I deliberately posted it here.

I'm not the organizer, or a sponsor, or presenting this year, or even a legit member of the Keystone Division (although it is where I started out in the NMRA in 1997).  I have no tie-in with the Division other than some friends and some appreciation for their hard work in holding this Jamboree (by the way they lose money putting it on so that they can spread the word about model railroading).

As for this being an advertisement, I don't care if it's seen that way.  I receive no compensation for posting it - I just think of it as a public service to modelers.

Pappy, I certainly understand your point, and I take no offense.  But this is not a commercial endeavor and I've been making this post for the last 6 years.  God willing, I plan to make another such posting next year, too.

Best,

George

One of the big advantages of this forum is being able to read about train meets and product offerings.  As for the sponsors, obviously they make this forum free by their financial support.  But I have never considered their postings as "advertisements" per say.  I find them very informative if for no other reason than to read about new product offerings and sales.   These days I have very limited funds for trains so my purchases have been sparce. But my last 2 purchases came about because of announcements by 2 of our sponsors regarding sales they were having. As a result I was able to get 2 items at a price that I could afford.  So aside from their financial support I think their postings are just more added value of this forum.

No disrespect intended to anyone, this is just my 2 cents.

This is the Announcements Forum. What else should we be posting here besides announcements of up-coming events and other items that might be of interest to someone in the hobby?

There are never any of these events in my area, but if there should ever happen to be one, it is nice to know OGR is providing this forum for announcing it so I don't miss it.

All of the OGR forums are provided for all of us to use and all for FREE as well.
