"The Big Climb" in o48

Hello All,

I am very new to this hobby.  I received a gift of an MTH Dreyfus Hudson with the passenger cars this christmas, and for whatever reason I decided the big climb would be a great layout for me.

I have tried to use the scarm software to make the layout so I knew what parts to buy, but I cannot seem to make things fit together.

Would anyone be willing to help me out and show me the error of my ways?
