One of the wonderful things about the Big E show in Springfield is I can walk around the halls with my camera and take pictures of whatever interests me. All this without "camera police" yelling at me. I wish the absurd and outdated rule at York concerning pictures would fade into the sunset (limited?)

Stepping off my soapbox I present The Big E - 2013

I arrived early and was in my car waiting for the doors to open at 9:00. First Stop the MTH Booth

This classic display caught my eye. Maybe it was the variety of Pre-War to present or just the staggered display like one I need...

The layouts were real, and they were spectacular

037

I saw no less than three different track cleaner cars

Yes, there were things i wanted to buy

Did I mention the layouts?

I live three miles from Quonset in Rhode Island. This is where the keels are laid for our submarines before they are towed to EB in Groton CT for assembly.

I really like these flat with loads, but at $180 per car

The new cars from Atlas look terrific

This is the first I have heard of this car to benefit Sandy victims

Look what Gerry brought home

Hmmmm, did I mention the great layouts?

We gathered as a group at 2:00, this is the highlight of the day to see old friends.

Next time I bring my tripod and I take the picture to get a better composition...

The man, the myth, the legend...

On the way out of town I drove by the railyard to verify the trackwork on my previous layout had a prototype in origin

A great day for friends, model trains, and terrific layouts.

You know, I didn't buy a single train related thing yesterday but I am so glad I went. Seeing everyone was the icing on the cake to a great show. Running into Erol and Gerry while perusing the halls was just an added bonus. I hope I get to spend more time talking with everyone next year.

Someone else mentioned this, but walking around this show is different from York. All scales and the railroadiana are represented and you see things here you would never see at York. The layouts alone are worth the price of admission.

Thanks for the nice comments on the pictures.

Mike, that was indeed a Canon 10-22. I was concerned before I bought it because it wasn't a "L" series lens. But I am thrilled with the images this lens can produce.

all the best,

Paul, thanks for posting the pictures...  I, too, had a great time yesterday...  As Marty stated this show is getting bigger and is becoming a venue for renewing model railroading social contacts... This was my 14th consecutive Big E show; we've really had a run of good weather at Big E time over the last 14 years...

If you want to visit the Boston Metro High Railers let me know and I'll show you around...  I will need a few days lead time so send me an email before you want to come;  I think we're easier to get to now than when we were in Melrose...  I know you have my address and it's also in my profile...
