Running a little late, but did my registration, and booked my room over the weekend. Now, I wait.
Re previous questions about food (and just about anything else you might want to know), find Clem's York Primer. I think it's on the ED's website, but it might be on TCA's - can't remember. I find it helpful to print a copy, highlight stuff of interest, and then put a post-it note on the page so I can find it later. (Warning - don't print the whole thing at home - you'll use a whole ink cartridge.)
Badges, hotel and long flight are secured for Tuesday through Sunday morning of York week!
Now, what to buy? Hmmmm...... I’ve narrowed my priorities to about a thousand things!

So basically it's the same old list you have at every York?
-Greg
Yeah Greg, I scrapped making a list for YORK a long time ago. I never really needed one. The trains, they find me. They talk to me and they understand what I need.
I'm getting excited.......

I've been that way a while. I guess because its my second time and will have more of an idea of walking around and talking.
Have a calendar big red X on the date. All loose ends ended...............
Temps are much cooler today here slightly north of Philly - the day has a fall feel to it. As I went out onto the deck to eat breakfast the first thought which came to mind was of how York is not that far away.

I wanted to make sure I went with a clear slate. DZ-2500's have green and yellow anti-Derail wires connected and operating flawlessly. Derailments caused by wheels climbing Atlas frog cured with .050 styrene shim on guard rails. Installing Custom Signals in rear of layout to facilitate Bridgeboss Elevated platform going in tonight. With a few empty choice lots available in my town I am looking for:
1) More structures
2) Street lighting
3) Scale automobiles, trucks and busses for streets and parking lots.
4) Rail-Racks or similar to put trains on wall when not on the layout.
5) Anything else that is cool and says I need to come home with you.
My first York, layout about 6 months old and ready for new ideas, I am pumped for York. Can't wait!
Yeah, its getting closer to the wire as it were. I still have to make my suggestions list for Ryan, see if I can get him to say, "it was something we were looking at", or, " you might be seeing those down the road or the not so distant future", or even, "hmm, possibly". Of course any of those responses for those who aren't familiar with Ryan usually mean, " maybe".
I personally can’t wait for York. Stop by Railroading in America Magazine’s booth and say hi! We will be in the orange hall right next to OGR.
First day of fall means York is just around the corner!

CC 03 will be our booth as an FYI.
I can't wait!

I live around 1 hour away. I have been to everyone since 1987.
I was hoping that some new Lionel engines from the 2017 Vol2 catalog would make it in time but now I doubt it!!
Charles Ro was showing dates of 10/10 but now they are pushed back to 11/10 or later.
Bummer.
Enjoy the show, I know we always do!
Donald
I leave two weeks from tomorrow. I'm ready! Well, almost. Have to put a couple of sale items on the Forum and see if anyone bites so I'll know what to take to York. I have no idea what I might bring back.
Gerry
5 days to go. You will be on the way home before you know it.
Eddie, Thanks for doing this every six months. It builds the excitement for a great event. After missing April, I'm really looking forward to next week!
Just got the suitcases out of the rafters.
Gotta love it!
-Greg
Have a safe trip everyone.
I suppose I should scout around for a suitcase...
I am headed to Atlantic City next Saturday and thinking about going through York Saturday morning to catch the show.
Do vendors pack up early making it a ghost town on Saturdays? My goal would be to hit the Orange Hall and then one of the other halls before closing time.
You will want to get there in the morning if you want to catch some of the show with most vendors still fully active. By the early afternoon, we're putting stuff in boxes in preparation for the mass exit. Most of the other vendors are doing the same thing.

Though Saturday wouldn't be a day I'd plan to do my window-shopping or actual shopping, knowing how intense that final exiting can be, as a vendor, in the Orange Hall (used to be), I have to admit two of my bigger customers, Richard Kughn and Tony Lash, used to swoop in on Saturday and buy everything that remained from the week's aggressive purchases. My guess was both of them, separately , of course, made their assessments of what was available and what of it they wanted, and came back expecting those choices to still be there. Sometimes, they were. Sometimes not.

Thanks gunrunnerjohn and Frank for your responses.
I am looking for a MTH Premier (ps1) N&W 611, 072 track, and some new smoke fluid bottles.
Plus it's fun just to be there and take it all in.
Biggest concern is everything might be gone or packed up by time I get started at 9 AM.
The morning is normally not bad, but by the middle of the afternoon, there's a lot of empty shelves around.
I'm roaring to go with only an hour & a half to go before work ends. A nice fall October day that will lead to an exciting October week. I copied out the TCA's agenda for this coming Wednesday, I just have to figure out what time I want to leave and arrive by. I really want to see Mike Wolf talk as I missed last year's TCA open house, and missed him at York too boot. My hotel check in is at 4, so I'll have time to walk around and take things in.

The smoke fluid (do you mean full, or containers to dispense from larger bottles? - and are you specifically after Lionel, MTH, MegaSteam, other?) should be easily obtainable Saturday morning in Orange, depending on the brand and/or if you care much about what scent you are getting.
Track may depend on what kind. I know C Ro tends to bring a decent amount of FasTrack, and obviously Ross is all about the track , but if you are looking for traditional tubular (new, old?), or even something else (Atlas, MTH ScaleTrax, etc), you may have to search more time than it is worth.
The very specific engine is possibly the proverbial needle in a Haystack, but the good news is most vendors will likely immediately know if they have one or not if you ask them rather than try to look over their whole table. Scanning each table would likely take too long to easily do on a Sat morning, IMO. I'd just travel the aisles looking for any large groups of the purple boxes and only ask there, but that's just me. (you could also ask someone at random who happens to have one squirreled away under his table, but it's probably not too likely )
Depending on how some members in the member halls feel the meet is going in terms of foot traffic and/or sales, unfortunately some have a tendency to start packing early.
I'd be laser focused on the smoke and track (I'm guessing you don't have a LHS if track is a "York hunt" item ) first in Orange and do a quick look for the engine, then make your way over to the member halls if you want to be able to at least see something there.
All IMO.

The bottom line is you really need a lot more time if you plan on scouring the dealer and member halls for specific items. You just can't do that in a couple of hours!
Record time for me is 4 and half hours
Safe travel, Eddie....see you soon.
Peter

I agree, on a Saturday I could cover all the halls in 4 1/2 hours. Of course that's because half the tables are sparse or empty by 11 AM!

Yeah, it would have been easier for me to just type that , but I figured a slight game plan and planting of relevant questions might help.

Steve, We called it suitcases 50 years ago. Now it is called luggage.

Or just plain "bags" if they were going in the baggage car.

Hope they're small things, there's a weight limit for carry-on bags!
Safe trip for the early travelers.
