I'm excited, apprehensive, and a bit sad.

Excited that York is coming again.

Apprehensive in that I will be walking around instead of working a booth, that will be different after all these years working Vince's.

And sad because the years with Vince, and the one and only TRAINPOP are likely over, and I might miss friends I'd see in the booth. At least I've 3 days to track folks down.

The fun of watching the hall transform from chaos of Wednesday, to 3 days selling, to the end and everyone packing up, we always seemed to be one of the last to leave.... Leaving before  6 on Saturday will seem strange...

no matter what, seeing everyone will make it GREAT!

Vince had a close out sale Thursday and even better prices Friday and Saturday anticipating a transfer, which he got. He moved to Sarasota last week. Not gaurenteed he will even have inventory left, or make the trip. The move and finding a place to live ate into vacation time off

TRAINPOP will be there, reservations already made, but you'll have to track him down or find him at the Thursday night gathering.

Wow.  This will be the first York I'm going to since 2006 as a regular instead of a vendor's assistant (Vince's trusty assistant Igor).   I'll actually get to see everything or almost everything.  It was actually nice to be in one spot and see everyone as they stopped in or passed by.

It will be different.

Hey Guys,
First off thanks to all my friends and acquaintances for many wonderful years. I will surely miss you all. I will be living 1100 miles away in Sarasota. Chuck and Jim you know we couldn't do it without you........ So how about Vince's Trains does a one weekend return in October? I've already stocked a 10' x 20' storage bin with trains that will sell at cost weather I am there or not. So Jim and Chuck let's sell until the tables are bare!!
Are you in?
Vince

"I'm now trying to decide if I should drive, take Amtrak to Harrisburg or Fly into BWI."

We have found that the drive option is the best for us. Last trip in April, we found a neat way to get through NYC directly to the GW Bridge. Saved us a lot of time and traffic. Let me know if you want my directions.

Good move with the TCA membership and you will love the York Meet. There is nothing like it.

Brian,

That "Why join the TCA" thread pushed me into joining the TCA!   I'm excited to see how York is vs. the Springfield, MA. show.  Springfield is big.  But one must walk through a lot of HO and N scale to find the O.   If you could email me your directions, that would be great.   Thanks.  (My email is in my profile.).

I will send them to you today. In terms of the Amherst Show and the York Meet, there is no real comparison. York is O-Gauge heaven and much larger in every respect. I have been to all of the so called "big" train shows around the country and I can tell you first hand that anyone who tries to tell you that there is anything that compares to the York Meet just hasn't attended the best of them all. You will find this out quickly.

Between you Mike, Eddie (and Bingo) and Elizabeth and I, we will have a few from Maine at York in October. Look forward to seeing you there.

Mike, Springfield is 85% N gauge & HO gauge. York is 85% O gauge. Give me a call and I will tell you the best way to go from where you live. 541-9444  Brian also knows all the different way's, & there are several. Ed   P.S. If this is your first time driving down to PA, I would not recommend going over the GW bridge.

Mike; a lot depends on how far you're traveling. I'm in DFW, so it's a pretty long, but do-able drive. Easiest for me was to fly into BWI. (April was my first time at York) It's a downright pleasant drive from there. But a car will allow you to spend MUCH more...

The UPS store in the buildings does a nice job, but in my opinion very high in price. They wanted $65 to pack and ship a 193 water tower a caboose, and 2 OGR / AmeriTowne building kits (flat boxes).

I had a carry-on bag and a computer satchel with just an iPad in it.  I took items out of their boxes; folded the boxes flat. I brought minimal clothes with me. I also brought with me some of that thin foam packing material. I was able to wrap the items in the foam and pack them in the carry-on. The model kits and another few small items like a 50 gang car fit nicely in my computer bag.  Do not check your bag!

Fortunately for me, a member from our club drove up to York, so he brought back with him my glass Hudson case.  Nice to have friends!

It's about a 8 hour drive from greater Portland ME., depending on traffic and road construction.  I have ruled out taking Amtrak. (Too long and I can fly cheaper)  I will be flying out of Manchester, NH. (Half the price of flying out of Portland, ME.). Flying round trip into BWI for $156.  Not much more than the $120 for driving.   Just over $200 after the rental car and airport parking.  Worth it and easier than driving the whole way.   My wife convinced me to fly.  She probably knows it will be harder for me to buy a bunch of trains without a car to load up!!  But I'll just send my stuff home with PTC or Eddie G.
