While at work this morning, I was perusing MSN.com and was clicking through photos showing the devastation of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.  I came upon this photo and wanted to post it since I found it interesting.  This train was waiting on a siding at Point Reyes Station when the earthquake hit and toppled the train.

Hmmmm....looks like that loco was used to switch dual gauge cars/track.  But those outside coupler boxes (one hidden in grass?) are so far out from the center, beyond what you'd have seen in Alamosa (Colorado)  for standard and 3 foot gauge, that I wonder (and I don't KNOW of any in Calif.) if there was two foot gauge track,  or less, such as a mining road of 18" ore cars, that could have been switched.  Wonder if the derailed cars in the photo were knuckle coupler.
