The Lionel Post War Set that was never made

The 1946 set with the 703 Hudson.  Or— a postwar set with the B6b switcher, that wasn’t reissued until 1989!

I would stick with that Texas Special freight set that my parents got me in 1954.....but,that scale Hudson would be next!

I would have put the Santa Fe 204/208 in a freight train set.

I agree with Big John on loading the set with action packed rolling stock.  The Trainmaster doesn't hurt to have either.  But any of Lionel's early post-war diesels and of course a GG1 would suffice.  

 OK it’s 1956 -  I always felt that the 2341 Jersey Central FM should be at the head of a freight set

TM in SP black widow with 3 to 4 Irvington coaches.  The SP was in an advance catalog for those selling Lionel products.  Would make a nice commuter train.  Real SP FM's were used in the same way...

My 1st set was the New Haven F3 set from 1958.

Here's a frame from 8 mm video shot December 1958....

When Lionel came out with Conventional Classics.....I had hoped they would do the 1959 New Haven F3 set (with the 3435 aquarium Car).....still wish for one.....
