Brian (PTC) posted a nice shot of his Lionel Santa Fe PA earlier that piqued a question that I've not resolved for myself yet. With Legacy being the advanced system that it is, how did lionel omit a MARS light on their last issue of the Legacy PA in the popular Warbonnett scheme? In researching the Lionel site for the PA production for the last 10 years or so, I notice that the 2003 Vol 2 catalog offered the PA's with TMCC in HN, D&H, and ATSF. The first two did not have a MARS light but the Santa Fe did as it should. The specs say both A units supposedly had one?
Moving forward, Legacy is introduced and two more PAs are cataloged in the 2010 Vol2 - The SP Daylight and again, the Santa Fe Warbonnett. The SP has a MARS light featured but not the Santa Fe. Any idea why? A MARS light is a neat addition in that it adds motion when operating and gives us something to admire in our latest locomotive. The earlier TMCC version has the light(s) and I have several other diesles including a Williams E7 with the feature. Why not Lionel's premium PA?
Here's ours with a stationary 'half-MARS' light...
