These are the super detailed  models of the classic IND subway cars built in the 1930's and were in service till the 1980's.    There are still a number of them that are active at the NYCTA/MTA transit museum.    They run out on the MTA subway B system during the holidays.   The cars that are still in use are all special for some reason (test beds something new, or 1st of a series or something)

There are actually R-1's, 4's, 6's, 7's, and 9's.    Other than the ones reworked as test beds, they are all vertually identical, but they were purchased under 5 different contracts.  MTH calls them all R-1's or R-9's, but below is a list of the actual numbers for the different contracts.

They are being made in ....

Traditional dark green (D train, GG Train, and the Museum train),

MTA blue silver  KK train and QJ Train (very few cars ever painted in the blue/silver)

Work train Yellow   (Cant find any pix of these cars in reality in work train yellow)  The early R-1 work cars were dark green.  Once the IRT, IND, and BMT merged, all the work cars were smaller A system (IRT) cars, as they could operate system wide,   The larger B system (IND, BMT) cars could not run on any IRT tracks.

Here's what they look like...
