It's been a while. I have dismantled my old layout. My new home is coming along and I have had a section built for my new layout in the basement. It is an "L" shaped room that is 23x18 with a 5.5x8 cut out to make the "L" shape. I may not get to the layout until the late winter at the earliest. The floor is now tiled.
Here is the new 3 track subway plan (added an express track to the subway) NOT showing the 3 track elevated design. All total there will be the capability to run SIX (6) trains at once unlike the single train snake through the entire basement of my old layout. Initially I will focus on the subway only, but it still means THREE (3) trains capable of running at once. The plan shows the tracks on a ramp leading to the elevated line.

Very nice space and layout to fill it. Given how I like to run trains and not do a lot of switching, I probably should have thought about a subway theme myself.
I don't want to hijack your thread, but I didn't see an email address in your profile. I really like the 3D render and would like to see how you did it? Any chance I could get the rrt file to take a look? If not, I'll understand.

THAT AREA LOOKS LIKE YOU CAN DO A LOT WITH IT. GOOD LUCK. THANKS FOR SHARING.
from the track plan, looks like in will be a lot of fun to operate.
Hi Joe. Looking good, keep us informed on the progress.

Real nice Joe cant wait to see it

Really Nice !!! Like the yard set up especially.
Hey Joe,
Looks good. Will you have accesss to the subway yard? Is that orange thing to rest on as your getting old?
Hi Brian ... To access the yard you will have to crawl under for now. Maybe I will design something that would allow a module to act like a lift bridge to enable easy access given the transformers will also have to be accessed that way. Any ideas?
The orange thing is the corner to my office furniture. Although the house is bigger, the office is not. So I moved that piece to the train room and cornered it.
DO NOT BUILD A LAYOUT THAT REQUIRES "CRAWLING" FOR ACCESS! PLEASE CONSIDER AN OPEN OR WALK-IN STYLE, YOU WILL BE VERY PLEASED AND ENJOY YOUR TRAINS MUCH MORE!

Looking at the photos, I guess I missed the fact that this is a multi-level layout with multiple tracks on each level. I just took a look at the 3D view in RR-Track and I see you also have subway stations where the obvious place for an entrance would be. Stating the obvious, that's going to make it difficult to design a lift-out platform. You might consider a mobile module, perhaps large enough to contain the entire subway station section. Your photo doesn't show them, but I assume there are also walls on the top and left?
You could make a half door with the track on top of the door so you can get to the center without ducking. I've seen several others that have done that here on the forums.
HI ALL,
I WILL SEND SOME PHOTOS OF MY FREELANCE "WALK-IN " STYLE LAYOUT. ITS APPROX. 18' X 13', PLUS A DOUBLE MAIN LINE THAT RUNS AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE DOWNSTAIRS, 40' X 24'. SCENERY CAN EASILY BE REACHED AND MAINTANANCE IS RELATIVELY EASY. LET ME KNOW IF INTERESTED. GOODNIGHT
Thanks, but a perimeter subway would not work for my design. I need the wide turns and straightaways for the stations. Plus there will be an elevated section. But please show me your design as I can always get fresh ideas.
DoubleDAZ .. yes there are walls at the top and left. The station is 8 feet long and modular, but too big to move.
Thanks for sharing.....nice area for the layout.
