Carl Jensen, manager of the Norfolk Southern steam program in the late 1980s and early 1990s, died on March 25. He was 87.

I had the good fortune of knowing Mr. Jensen when I worked as a car host on various NS steam excursions in the late '80's and early '90's.  When I hired on at NS Triple Crown in Detroit he would often call to see how I was doing.  He knew his railroading and was a true gentleman.

I have known Carl and his wife Carol for a long time. I actually knew his wife long before him as she worked with my mother at a clothing store when I was a teenager. The two much later moved into my old neighbor hood and would stop by when I was out in the yard and visit with our dogs. Being that I was out on the road, I didn't work directly with Carl, but, I would see him at railroad related functions and was glad that he was with the NS steam program.
