Hello to everyone who enjoys this awesome hobby!  I'm writing this to introduce my Silver Rail Club to those who may have not yet heard of us, and to re-introduce us to folks who might remember us from 2007, when my Dad and I started out by sharing our O-gauge model trains with 'everyone, everywhere'.  Our motto: 'Have Trains, Will Travel'  is still accurate.  We've provided model train activities to seniors, veterans, their families and the general public using a unique fold-away display, made up of 4 plastic banquet tables which can be set up in about an hour, which provides a full day of railroading fun, excitement, and family fellowship.  Not only can families enjoy the trains we display, but with 'Activ-Motorama', featuring Carrara roadways going through our town, kids can enjoy near-scale slot-car racing activity as well.  Finding the Silver Rail Club on-line is easy.  Just have Google search for us by name.  There are 4 SRC chapters on the east coast, each with its own Facebook page, and since launching our YouTube channel in 2010, videos I've posted have received over 2 million views combined!  Of course, during the pandemic we've not able to travel with our layout to visit the senior facilities as we did prior to 2020, but that's changing.  As covid restrictions are being lifted, activity directors are once again calling us to come out and set up our trains!  It's worth mentioning that during these past two years, I've had the chance to complete most all the details of my home-based layout (layouts are never complete).  An 'all American 1950's town sits on the bank of a waterway with 3 bridges that connects it to its industry, a power station, and a rail yard on the opposite bank.  I've made several videos, and do my best to capture all the fun of model railroading in a realistic manner as one might enjoy as if they were there at the layout, operating the trains themselves.  Kind of a 'virtual model train experience'.  I've put the links below so you can see and enjoy what's been posted on FB and YouTube.  At 93, Dad still comes with me to many of our 'rail-events'.  You can see him in our the most recent videos from the shows we set up for in Charlottesville, and Richmond VA.  15 years sure has gone by pretty darn quick.  But we've made great memories for families that will last their lifetime, and I just want to say thank you to those who've supported us in all we do, all these many fine years!  Looking forward to staying 'on track' in the years ahead.  Sincerely, Peter J. Martens, Founder, the Silver Rail Club  https://www.facebook.com/silverrailclub  On YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/SilverRailClub

  • Trainman: This is how the layout looked in 2010. I had just set up our YouTube account that year, and we began getting a good following on FB and Twitter.
  • Peter_2015: I added a 4th stand alone banquet table to the 4 folding tables, increasing the size of the display to 6'x15'. However, with Dad's 4 additional tables, we set up displays that were as big as 6'x32', complete with bridges, waterways, crossovers, and more!
  • SRC 2021: The newest version of the SRC layout features trains and slotcars together, which I call 'Activ-Motorama' Glenn, to my right, runs the SRC of RVA chapter in Richmond, VA.
